If I wanted to talk politics, I'd go to the barbershop. When I hit GRM, I wanna talk cars.
That is all.

Did you know that current VP Biden is a huge car nut and owns a 66 Vette? Or that the only time he's driven since taking office was in his brother's CTS-V down a long driveway?
Yeah...this is what off-topic is for. No pollution in the Grassroots forum. On days when I don't feel like talking politics I just stay there.
Patently false! QUIT BELIEVING THE LIES THE MEDIA FEEDS YOU!!
WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!!
Everybody knows he has a Trans Am.
Hooboy, last time anybody asked this bunch to stop doing something it was epic. The Hotlinked picture thread is required reading for any serious student of the internet. Where is Lyndon LaRouche when ya need him?
I actually like the political threads. When I am in the mood to learn something I read a few of them. We have some fairly smart level headed people here. Occasionally they post in the political threads.

A big thumbs-up, sir!
I hate politics (and I'm a poli-si major, go figure), but i'm cool with the political banter on this site. It actually can be pretty enlightening and sometimes entertaining.
Here's my quick gut check on a political thread on whether or not it's worth reading.
When a topic comes up, watch it for a few hours. If it blows into multiple pages within the first two hours or so, it's probably become a yelling match.
If it takes a while to develop, it might have some interesting content. *

So you mean that like, if two political threads are started on the same morning the one that's barely 2 pages is probably better than the 5-pager?
I don't care for them either, but at least on this site they generally don't degenerate into shouting matches like they do on most other boards.
Sometimes I'm just not in the mood, but I have to say that the level of discourse on the GRM forum is quite frankly amazing, especially when compared to the rest of teh Internetz.
It's the one spot where I get to compare notes with folks who aren't essentially socioeconomic/subculture mirrors of myself, or close.
I always liked the romantic notion that part of democracy was meeting down at the pub and earnestly but politely working out differences. Hearing other viewpoints from actual humans, especially intelligent, thoughtful humans, is a good and enlightening thing.
Democrats are all bed-wetting liberals and republicans are all elderly-hating fascists.

Seriously folks, if not for the animated discussion that takes place here in the political threads, off-topic would be a total snooze-fest!
