Can you 'splain this to me?

What's the deal with the fascination with canoes here on GRM. I can't spend my whole day on this forum like some of you so I missed it.
I wasn't here for the birth of the berkley meaning or the E36 M3 deal and now I missed another one!

Canoe was the code word for someone spamming or fishing the forum.

We needed a code word because we are cool.

Canoes are not very GRM, so that became the word.

I think it was Per's idea - an easy to search for word that could be used to flag spammers and astroturfing, and it might have roots in a Simpson's episode - but the exact reference escapes me.

It's a Family Guy reference - Peter and Lois are doing a little S&M stuff and Peter's safety word was "canoe". So if there is a spammer a few people will reply with "canoe" in their post so the staff can just log in and search for the safety word and get taken to the neighborhood of any spam.

I wonder if this thread will get yanked now?
