That's something I could see my mom doing.
But why would he leave his key fob in the car at a Walmart?
Automatic key fobs are a really dumb idea. I get in my wifes car and there is usually already a fob in the console. Was it so hard to have to push a button as you walked up to your car?
Why does every new invention have to remove human effort from the equation?

Huh?
The only reason this happened is because they left the fobs in the car. This is no different than if 20 years ago you left your car unlocked with the keys in it.
If you're going to notice that your "rental" is dirty and has somebody's golf clubs in the back, wouldn't you logically notice these things on the Enterprise lot when you pick up the car? The alternative is that while you were picking up milk and bread at Wal-Mart, the Filth Fairies attacked your car. This does not seem reasonable to me – not that I'd be giving my Mom too much of a hard time about it. After all, I'm the key-fob newbie who had to go back into the Kia dealer to ask how to start my loaner Forte. (Apparently you put your foot on the brake to make it go, not just stop.)
