There are more Californians than Canadians and I don't follow California political scene eventhough the stuff they pass out there ends up affecting the rest of us. I don't think Canadian politics matter too much to me. I knew there was an election only because I read about it on another car related site I visit and it had been discussed recently. So the Doonesbury guy won?
Interesting fun fact about Canada. Over 2/3rds of Canadians live south of Blaine, WA. It may be the great white north, but most of the people are crammed in to the southern portion and actually are farther south than big chunks of the US.
I learned about it in a bizzare way. You know those people who say "if so and so gets elected I am moving to Canada"? It was a video about how horrible the current guy was compared to certain people here and stated the election date.
So a don't migrate here/worse here video is the only reason I knew.

The funny bit is that when they start building the Canadian wall at the border, the Canadians will probably have fundraisers to help speed things up, AND the Mexicans will be hired to do the work!

Have to agree with you there. How " Nominee Challenged" would you have to be as a nation to adopt genealogical or matrimonial brand imaging as an electoral platform?

Canada elected a new guy. Apparently he's very liberal. There are 50,000 sites talking about how attractive he is, and comparing his relative attractiveness to other current world leaders.

I'm Canadian so I'm painfully aware. But I thought it was interesting that my kid in grade 8 and also the one in grade 7 did not cover the election in school. ZIP Nothing. Didn't come up at all. And there probably will not be another election while they are in high school.
But the 11 year old in grade 5 came home to tell us that the Conservatives have ruined the country and that Steven Harper (sitting PM) is a VERY BAD MAN.
I'm not sure which approach to education is worst.

I have been reading all sorts of child appropriate educational material about elections (in the US) to my oldest kids, and the oldest watched a republican and the democrat debate. He has a favorite. I am trying hard not to push opinions on him. It's easily the most fun civics lesson he'll see for another four years.
I do like the fact that two of the parties are called the Liberals and the Conservatives. It's laid right out there for you. So yes, Trudeau is a big-L Liberal. Meanwhile, I had to explain to my US born and educated wife what that meant relative to Republicans and Democrats 
Homeschooling just means that kids are only exposed to the viewpoint you choose. At least the kids being told something else at school means you can have a conversation - and all of a sudden, they're having to develop critical thinking skills as they have to digest two different opinions from two reputable sources. I'd call that good education.

I'm assuming "reputable" in this case means "it does not reflect my personal views" 
My use of the word is from the kid's viewpoint - teachers are adults with a lot of influence in their lives, and should be reputable in their students' eyes.
But if your kids are getting anything from their schools about politics, then that means you have an opportunity to have that conversation I mentioned. In that case, having a differing view from the school is actually a benefit. The education system is not meant to be standalone, it works best when you work with it.

Wat? Elections in Canada? I thought they were still an English colony and subject to the whims of the Queen. We don't get a lot of furrin' news 'round these parts.

I knew there was an election on, that Harper was in trouble, and that Justin Trudeau was the son of a previous PM. Looking at the results today, I figured Bloc Quebec would have taken more seats, but I'm not sure how much representative seats Quebec is supposed to control the vote on (I hope that sentence makes sense).
I'm curious how well Justin will be able to translate his campaign planks into actual change.
Speaking of Justins, can't you Canucks give Bieber a job to keep him out of the states?
