For the last three months, we have had my wife's daughter living with us. Oh, yay. With her came two dogs, a 5# Yorkie and a 50# female Boxer puppy. 8 months old. We have a 20# Dachshund. The Yorkie and the Dachshund are uncut males. Well, the inevitable happened- Boxer came into heat. Now the boys are going absolutely nuts trying to get some, and my wife is going absolutely nuts trying to keep that from happening. It's actually funny watching that tiny Yorkie. He is frantic. Boxer wears a diaper/ chastity belt while in the house, but that does nothing to discourage the boys. All the while, the daughter sleeps on the couch. Well, until 11:00am or so. Anybody have any suggestions to help keep my sanity?

Tell the daughter to pack her E36 M3 and move out? I mean it's HER dog in heat, so by default it's her responsibility to take care of the problem, not yours. If she was deferring responsibility to you and your wife, then what ever you come up as a solution, she will have to accept. JMO.

[soapbox]

JMO here again, but having TWO unspayed/neutered of opposite sex animals around is irresponsible unless you are going to actively breed them. There are too many good dogs out there in the kennels and shelters from unwanted litters. The supply far exceeds demand.

The Pack Her E36 M3 And Move Out has been tried. Strongly. No job, no car, no money, poor her. I'M the one that will move out. She has a deal pending to go to Senegal and bring back 5 Kilos of gold, making her wealthy. I live in a zoo.

While she's out one day just grab the dog and make a donation.

Fix all 3 dogs. When she complains, suggest that adults look after that kind of stuff themselves, and since she doesn't seem to be one, you looked after it for her.

Manage to get some of that "Heat Juice" on her, the male dogs will devote much time to getting intimate with her...

While it is gross and doesn't accomplish anything, it may make you feel a bit better.

Maybe I'll just hide a used doggie Kotex under her sheets. Hmmmmm

This.

unless the dogs are fulltime, AND I MEAN FULLTIME indoor/leash dogs, it is simply irresponsible for them not to be.

Our doxie is a full time house dog. Goes out to do his business only, and that is in a fully fenced back yard. We never really felt the need to have him spayed because of this. Never had any problems. The Yorkie is absolutely frantic. It is pathetic, and mommy does very little to control the situation. I don't want to get into that any more. The entire situation sucks.

Surrender her dogs to the SPCA. Tell her to get her own place and she can have her own dogs that she can choose to not look after then.

It's your house, you make the rules. Uninvited house guests do not get to dictate the new house rules.

Unfortunately, whereas you and I totally agree, my wife feels very strongly that she needs to protect her 41yo baby. She may well trade a husband for this bitch.

Perhaps you should take a vacation for a couple weeks, with the Dachshund. I fail to see how any of this is protecting the daughter. It is only enabling her to continue a self destructive behavior and preventing her from developing the life skills needed to be an adult.

I have been saying this for ten years.

Well, how much longer you gonna keep saying it?

In all seriousness, this is not an issue that is going away by itself. Can you convince your wife to go with you to family counseling?

Man, I thought I was a waste of life when I was living with my mom at age 22. I was making my own money and taking care of the family dog, but I wasn't paying rent.

41 and she's acting like this? What? Does not compute.

What did she do before she lived with you guys?

Seriously, 41? To the curb with that. What does she do? Is she looking for a job, or just planning on being a sponge?

FORTY berkeleying ONE!?!? There's no "growing up" at that point, and if your wife won't comply, I think you have the right idea with "It's either me or her." If that's not an option, the "spay the boxer, neuter the other two" plan sounds awesome, then explain to her that she's lucky they came back from the vet at all.

Sorry man. That's messed up. Hope you get it worked out.

sounds like fixing the dogs (no pun intended) isn't going to fix the issue.

the issue is you and your wife aren't taking the marriage in the same direction as partners...

If she sleeps until 11 wake her up and make her do some heavy lifting for living their. But before you do make a 9am appointment for the female dog.

All of the comments above are very close to what my feelings are. My wife is the ultimate Momma Bear, protecting her babies. Unfortunately, her cubs are berkeleying parasites. This reminds me of the thread from not too long ago about the wife that was cheating on one of us. I truly love my wife. We have been together for 20 years. She is my partner in every sense. BUT. Her daughter is using us. She is absolutely certain that she is going to make a fortune bringing gold into the US. From Senegal. Can anybody say scam? In the mean time, she lives with us and does almost nothing to assist. Not even the dishes. Oh, by the way, her son, 21yo. also lives with us. Ever since his conviction for domestic abuse, 8 months ago. He thinks he has a job lined up now. Will find out for sure next week. We paid his bail bond on that, too. 3K. So, I have two berkeleying parasites, complete with bad attitudes, living in my house. Contributing nada. Business has been very slow, so I have no cash to make a move, but that is the best alternative. Then wife gets to make a big decision. Them, or me. Sorry, I have been drinking and might not be real nice right now, but I am at the end of my rope.

You sir are up the proverbial fecal creek sans a propulsion device. Sorry to you my good Sir and as a near 40yr old myself it makes me sick to think of pulling that kind of crap on any of my relatives. What utter Bull Pucky.

Snip all of the dogs. The diaper belt will inevitably fail at some point. Humans can't even get birth control right on themselves most of the time. What the hell can anyone do with a litter of unwanted mutt puppies beyond give them away? Get them euthanized?

That sucks.

Snip the dogs. Make wife and daughter understand that you won't be taking care of any mooches. Maybe the wife would agree to making certain stipulations on them being able to stay there, like, they have to prove to you that they have made a certain number of job applications over the course of the week. They have to show you the cover letter and resume submitted. Also, they don't get to eat your food if they do not do chores around the house.

Really, they should get their lazy asses out of your house and be taking care of their own selves. Sounds like we're past that though.
