It's fine to do whatever you want to your car (provided it does not make things unsafe/unhealthy for the people around you). It is fine to think the style of racing you enjoy the most is the best sort of racing there is.
It is not cool to malign someone else's car or style of racing as not real racing. Especially if you haven't done it yourself. (Exceptions allowed for people being unsafe or doing blatantly idiotic things to their cars because they can not be bothered to learn the basics of the type of driving they are interested in. E.g. "stiffening" bars attached to the C-pillar of the car with a couple sheet metal screws.)

Often, when I talk to people who like to think they're car enthusiasts about autocross, they always inquire how fast you go. My reply: "usually around 40mph, never over 70." Their response: "I did 120 on the parkway this morning." Its usually best if I bite my toung, until it bleeds.
I respond: Fast enough that spinning your car out of control is a valid concern.

The reality is that you found out something about his real personality that can't be put back in the box. It has nothing to do with cars.
This relates directly to the old saying that "Better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to open mouth and remove all doubt." Now that he has spoken his opinion, you know he is a happy shiny person at the core, it will affect everything else you do with him.
What is important is to know how to use this in future interaction to your advantage, or to get him to open his mouth in the wrong (for him) circumstances.
