"On June 8, 2011 the following unfortunate arrest took place in Canton, OH. Notifying the policy when you have a firearm is required by Ohio Law, but when this individual with a thirty-day old license tries to do that he is repeatedly ordered to look away, shut up, or interrupted and "forced" to change what he is speaking about by the actions of an aggressive cop who maintains verbal control of the situation.

A two man car dealing with three people put itself at risk when one officer started what appears to be an illegal search of the rear of the car without extracting or securing the driver - which would have given him an opportunity to notify.

What follows is horrific example of a police officer losing all self-control, threatening to beat the female, threatening to beat the driver and eventually saying he should have executed him "and wouldn't have lost any sleep over it" that night."

Here's the foot notes: Police check out a car. Threaten to beat a woman, and start searching a car without probably cause or talking to the driver. The driver is told several times not to talk, and interrupted, as he tries to disclose the fact he's LEGALLY carrying a pistol. When he final is able to tell the police they cuff him, berate him, and then say "As soon as I saw your gun, I shoulda taken two steps back, pulled my Glock 40 and just put ten bullets in you and let you drop. And I wouldn't have lost any sleep".

This SICKENS me. The city is trying to charge the Driver for failing to disclose the fact he was carrying despite (as you can see and hear in the video) his repeated attempts to tell the Officer.

Oh thank god. I thought you meant Canton GEORGIA.

We dodged a PR bullet for once. Whaddya know.

But, in relation to the actual post....It's cops like that give a bad name to all the really decent, hardworking lawmen (and women) that I've known over the years. I hope the judge laughs them out and suspends them.

Suspends? Try locking them up. Telling somebody you are going to pump them full of lead is Assault, let alone the Rights violations of illegal search and seizure...

"Hoss". If I referred to a TEO as "Hoss" he'd read me the riot act and give me a ticket. That's dissrespect.
Maybe he forgot he had a mike on?

Would that be the criminal or civil court case?

I have the feeling this one will see both versions...........

Foolish cop, he is very bad operator, you have to listen to the suspect you are questioning, he might be telling you about a much worse situation about to occur.

Cops need to listen and take in info, not rant like a fool, he just made himself out to be a belligerent bully. Hopefully the local Court and his boss see this also.

I think you are right. The driver is probably going to lose the court case on a technicality... on that he should have made himself heard or some BS like that.

The civil case will get a sympathetic jury

The driver should've yelled "I'm CCW and have a weapon with me" from the get-go. His bad...........

The officer never made an attempt to approach the driver until minutes had passed. His bad..........

The officer had a right to be PO'd, but he should be mad at himself more than anyone else.

On the first count, he tried MULTIPLE times.

On the second count, the cop is a bully.

On the 3rd count, he should not be getting that po'd EVER.

Driver's obligation to advise cop, he tried a number of times and had CCW in his hand. No fault, as a CCW holder in Ohio who drives a minimum of 60K a year I have never had to yell my legal authority to carry at a cop.

Cop didn't listen, was obnoxious and, IMHO as a 16 year veteran, "A complete tool"

A cop should have dealt with much worse without losing his cool.

If he acts like that at the station they will jump at the chance to get rid of him.... ever wonder how the video got out?

In reply to Bobzilla and aussiemg:

This is why eye witness accounts aren't reliable. We all see the same video and come to different conclusions.

I saw a driver who never made an immediate effort to yell that he was CCW. You didn't.

Who's right?

That's really unfortunate. Maybe it's because I live in the South, but every traffic stop I've had in the last 20yrs...the first thing the officer asks is "Do you have a weapon in the car?"

It scares me that that kind of person is allowed to carry a gun... no offense to him, but he struck me as being a little slow

Why? Because he got intimidated by a very aggressive Police Officer who interrupted him, threatened him, and the Cop kept bring up a completely unrelated point about the possibility the girl was a prostitute? It's hard to keep your cool during a situation like that.

The guy tried SEVERAL TIMES to say he had a pistol and even had his permit in his hand that he told the officer about, which was ignored. This is such a gross abuse of power it just makes my blood boil to see it. And yet I'm certain nothing will happen to the Officer (nothing worth mentioning anyways).

You might want to read my post again, I definitely saw him make multiple attempts to both hand over his license and heard him make attempts to advise the cop he was a CCW.

I think you are right

I have to wonder how much of the cop's anger was over himself being stupid? Instead of berating himself for never checking the driver (which was a stupid thing to do), he took it out on him
