Since we all have the car liking affliction here.

My current fleet is:

Daily: 2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid  96k miles purchased in June. 5k left on loan will be paid off 1st of Nov. Staying as its too good of a daily driver.

Winter/SUV things: 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser 432k miles owned outright

Wants are a rallycross vehicle. Looking at spending 7500-12k

I would like to stay with 2 cars which means the winter vehicle needs to be able to pull double duty as a winter/rallycross vehicle which means AWD

I do not like subaru's.

My options are:

1. Keep the Land Cruiser and get a rallycross vehicle in cash, thus going up to 3 vehicles.

2. Sell the Land Cruiser and get a new bronco in Base 2 door with the 2.7/auto which would be about $33-35k ish but it lets me stay with 2 vehicles

3. is Option 1 plus replacing the Land Cruiser with a newer 200 series Land Cruiser in 2022.

The Land Cruiser is fine now but it is a bunch of little things that bother me with it, almost half a million miles, poor tow vehicle since the 5 speed trans in the later 100's would be much better. It did not like towing a miata on a dolly for 50 miles. gets 12mpg. The trans isnt the happiest thing in the world atm anyway, see half million miles.

Once the Avalon is paid off once I get paid for Oct I will be debt free, but I already max my Roth IRA and am saving 20% in my 401k plus 6% in my pension($1350/month total between the 2).  I can afford the bronco easily.  It also should be fine for rallycross, might not be competitive but whatever.

The curve ball is when can you get the new Bronco?   Is it a year away?

I don't RallyX, never have, but the little I think I know is some muddy days but more often dry, blowing dirt days where fine dirt gets into every nook of your car's interior.  Would you really want to subject a brand new, $35k Bronco to this much dirt?

If yes for subjecting to the dirt, how is the Bronco better than the Cruiser at the same thing?  Sure, lighter and maybe faster but both are more so off-road trucks and I think RallyX is more slanted toward car style performance on a slippery surface.

I guess what I am saying is that the Bronco seems no better at RallyX than the Cruiser.  I would suggest that if you find a proper RallyX car you will have a better time RallyX'ing.  Or, keep the Cruiser.

Actual answer: #1: get a real RallyX car.  For SUV/things either a Cruiser (either one) or the up-spend to a Bronco.

1200-1500lbs lighter with 80+hp and 100 ft lbs more torque with a much better transmission.  Is a bronco a rallycross vehicle, i would say not really but then again is a GMC Syclone or a Geo Tracker? both ran at nationals, locally a trucked s10 blazer with an LS swap runs, a frontier runs occasionally as well and a 3rd gen v8 4runner has run at times. Will i be competitive with the turbo subaru's or audi a4's? No but I would just be doing it for fun. I am not afraid of getting the car dirty, I took my subaru crosstrek I had off road more than some local jeeps.

4) unload land cruiser and find a used rally cross/ winter vehicle that isn't a heavy sloth.

Would you be able to run the Bronco at a rallyX? Rules wise I mean.

yes, there is no height/track width rule like autox. its just up to the organizer if its safe. and trucks run fairly. National had a GMC syclone and a 2 door geo tracker.

Option 1, but spend ike 3K, and set the rest aside for parts for the Rallycross car and Land Cruiser.   I recommend against rallycrossing a vehicle that you need for anything else.

3sgte swapped 1st gen RAV4 manual is the obvious answer here right?

Buy an XJ Cherokee for rally cross or something else that's cheap and will be a dedicated rally cross car.  Then either sell your cruiser for a newer one or a Bronco.

So do you want a Bronco because you want a Bronco, and doing rally cross with it would be a secondary priority?

If it were me I’d sell the Landcruiser (sounds like you’re kind of over it,) get a set of winter tires for the Avalon and spend 3-5k on something fun and lightweight for rallycross things.

But I’m not you so if the Bronco is what gets you excited then I say. go for it.

If the Avalon can be a backup winter vehicle, then I'd sell the Cruiser and get something that will be your winter daily and rally X vehicle in the same package. EVO?

Just buy a cheap car and get out and rallycross it. After a season or two you will know what you want.

Mostly I like jeep-like vehicles and would have already bought a new Suzuki Jimny if they sold those here. I just dont trust FCA at all. Friend has owned 8? wranglers at this point and they are terribly built vehicles.  We dont get the 70 series, a new 200 is an option buy if I am paying 35k for something I would prefer it to have less than 100k miles on it. I like the power potential of the 2.7, I have considered Raptors a number of times but those start at $55k.  The ranger raptor and raptor versions of the bronco are future possibilities.

It seems Lexus GX460's are more reasonable price wise than a 200 series(lexus or Toyota) and I have considered them as well.

The curve ball I see is that so far, all of the critics have labeled the Bronco as a "do not buy" along side the new Ranger.  There is enough speculation out there as to the crappiness of the Bronco that I would wait a couple years until some other portion of the population buys them and reports back about how good/bad they are.
