So, been rolling in the Golf lately. It's in need of some love. Needs new rear brake pads and the accessory belt is dire need of changing (thanks Father-in-law). However more pressing, the trip computer and in dash clock keep reseting. Maybe this is as simple as the battery cables being lose? Any other thoughts?

OR you have got a power supply relay or fuse box going bad.

bad ground? that's all i got.
ya you blew the o ring out of your turd cutter leading to a bad fartknocker valve
Oh man, how much to fartknocker valves go for? I don't think I know enough to do one of those myself.
Had this happen with a dead cell in the battery.
Still had juice to run and drive, but starting it would drag the voltage below some level and erase stuff.
Check your fuses, those things get power from 2 fused sources. A constant fused 12v to feed the memory and a second fused power supply tied to the ign switch or relay that actually powers the display.
when does the trip odo and radio reset? If it happens on restart, I agree with egnorant.. sounds like a battery going out. If it happens when going down the road, it is likely a loose wire or ground.
Not that VWs have bad electrics or anything...
AFAIK, that's par for the course for a VW....
