Why do all those sound as if it will make racers look bad?

because they will

It's better ratings to sensationalize a few illegal street racers that spend a day filming the challenge.

The challenge would actually make a good documentary...follow a few of the faster teams (e.g. the Nelson clan) for a few weeks before hand, then film the event....

I'm not going to comment on the street racing thing, but the last thing I'd want is my mug to be plastered all over the screen. Duh.

I found it interesting. Amazing how little they can do to stop the actual racing, but the participants seem to do a good job at giving them other ways to bust them. I don't think the "undercover" car was quite as undercover as they think, either.

Some of the LA stuff was pretty extreme. Years ago I looked at a crown conversion Corvair (V8 in the back seat) with a 302 in it that had at some point was used for street racing. I am sure it surprised a some of the traction challenged cars that seem to be popular to race.

The best street racing was on Woodward Ave in the 60's.
