Any experience or recommendations on car stereo head units that integrate well with Android phones? There are plenty that integrate with iApple stuff and no shortage that will read MP3's off with no additional control over what you would get if it were just a thumb drive. But what about genuine integration?
So far, something like this Kenwood deck looks like the best bet. I had a Kenwood Excelon deck in my M Coupe, and was quite pleased. Looks like this just requires downloading a simple app to the phone.
I like to go the other way... use the aux input on the head unit and then control the music player thru the phone app. All you need is a $10 plastic car holder for your phone and a headphone jack patch cord to hook it up.
I have a Sony Double DIN that works well with Android, via Bluetooth.

This is what I do. It lets me run everything from the phone.
That doesn't answer the question though. If you find one that works, be sure to post it on here. I need to change the head unit in my truck.
Car is an s2000. So single DIN and no good spot to conveniently access a phone.
There are radios out there, you just need to look hard.

Proclipusa makes a phone mount that's incredibly awesome for s2000s.
I've been looking for a double din, touchscreen Android compatible head unit for awhile now. They're out there, just $$$$

+1 for Proclip. I have two of their mounts in my truck, one for my phone, one for my Garmin. They aren't cheap, but man are they nice.

+2 for Proclip. I've gotten mounts for my last phone and current phone, for use on my bike.

I put an Alpine CDE-143bt into my wife's car recently.
We use iOS at our house, and it's awesome with that. When reading up on the unit before buying, some Android folks liked it, but others didn't love it. Judging by some of the reviews, it may have had a lot to do with the specific piece of hardware being used.
If you pick a unit that handles calls and voice commands, spend a little time figuring out the mic placement. I think my install has room for improvement on that item.
the $120 (with a pair of 6" speakers) Sony XPlod deck i got at Wal Mart 4 years ago sees my android phone as a usb drive.. i can put songs on my POS Samsung Dart phone in albums and in whatever order i want, and the radio plays them in that order and even displays the artist, album, and song info just like it does when i play it off my thumb drive... i can't control anything with the phone- but why would i need to, what with all the buttons on the deck that accomplish that goal?
There is a really cheap dual bluetooth unit I got off Amazon that was great with my android. It had decent enough sound quality (crap stock speakers didn't help) and the bt worked very well. Had a mic that could be run through the a pillar too so you never have to touch the phone to answer calls. Did I mention it was really cheap?

If you want to retain stock appearance and the use of your wheel-adjacent controls (which is nice in an s2k when the head unit is behind a door) you could do an integration kit for the stock wheel. Grom makes one for android, I have one of their kits in my Volvo that I really like. Eventually I will get around to putting one in my S2000. I tend to just put in earbuds now, the thing is pretty noisy with the top down.
