This truly marks the end of an era, enjoy your rest Carroll.
He had a great run.
A true American rebel. I've read so many different stories/books about him vs. the Euros. Nothing like a loud Texan to show them how it's done.
That sucks I remember riding around in my Dad's GLH when I was little. I would love to get my hands on a couple of Shelby cars both Dodges and Fords.

Not at all. For all the great things he did, the last 15-20 years of not-so-great stuff is part of his legacy, too.
By the way, he was one of the longest living heart transplant patients ever recorded (he got his transplant in 1990).
Growing up a Mustang kid, I certainly revered his work. Reading about his and his teams exploits in sports car racing really opened my eyes to cars that do more than go fast in a straight line.
I owe who I am, at least partially, to Carroll Shelby.
"Give him the money and get him outta here before he bites somebody!" - Lee Iacocca referring to Carroll Shelby. That's what I will remember about Shelby. That guy was one of a kind.
Obviously he contributed more to the sport than he detracted from it, can't people be content w/ that?
RIP
Funny how he and Peter Brock went back and forth over that one, i.e. Datsun vs Toyota way back when. Toyota hires Brock (Shelby's former employee) to run their race program, then Shelby sneaks in and snatches it out from under him. Brock hooks up with Datsun on the rebound and creates arguably the most famous small bore race team ever. His former boss's SCCA effort is relegated to a footnote in race history.
There has been lots of talk about his character being Texan, which I'm sure is true. I wonder what portion of his go-go-go I don't really give a E36 M3 who I shove attitude stems from his heart condition, and the underlying knowledge he wouldn't likely be around too much longer...I know I've read interviews where he stated that he was way, way older than he ever thought he'd get to be.
And he built some cool stuff.
