I loved it! definitely dragging the kids to the new one.
Doc Hudson was my favorite character in the 1st.

It's not going to be a $85 million dollar opening weekend blockbuster, it's going to do as well as any other animated film, but the real cash is going to flow with merchandise.
Huh? The first one got very good reviews: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/cars/
Second one, not so much: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/cars_2/
I'll see it anyway, the kids and I loved the first one.
I loved the first one, I saw new car guy Easter eggs popping up each time I watched it. I particularly liked the track level shots with the 'marbles'. I'll probably wait for '2' to come out on DVD, at age 13 the kid probably won't be real nuts about going to see it in the theater since it won't have anime in it anywhere.
Actually, there's several scenes in Tokyo that mirror Akira a slight bit in that they're both the same supposed city. Take him, I bet he'll still get a kick out of it, at least the Tokyo part.

Let me rephrase that: Critics said it was the worst Pixar movie with an unoriginal plot. I on the otherhand don't feel that way. I loved the 1st movie.

SHE might get a kick out of it.
I loved Cars 1. I'll most likely love Cars 2.
The attention to CAR detail in Cars 1 was great. The flies were actually VW Beetles with wings. The car sounds were very authentic. The NASCAR racers actually mirrored the car design and major personalities of their respective eras. Curmudgeon already mentioned other great details like the marbles when viewing at track level during the action shots. This is a car movie made by gear heads. I love that. You can't fake that passion or attention to detail if you're not into cars.
The movie also did something that all great cartoon houses have done in the past. They make a movie for kids but insert jokes for the parents. That scene where the Miata twins flash their headlights at Rocket McQueen? That joke wasn't for kids. It's a great thing. Entertainment you'll enjoy watching with your kids.
They will never have a bomb. The powers behind it have too much fun at work and they will leave three movies worth of crap in the editing room terminals recycle bin before letting a movie out.
I am watching for the easter eggs like everyone else.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who loved the headlight flash in Cars 1. I just about fell out of my seat in the theater.
I had the chance to visit Pixar a while back, after The Incredibles and while they were working on Cars. The place is full of gearheads - someone drove a Nash Metropolitan in to work the day I was there, and showing up with a Locost on a trailer sure brought a few people out of the office. Fantasy Junction is literally across the street from the Pixar campus.
So it's not surprising that Cars had a lot of car guy stuff in it.

That & the tramp stamp on Sally (911).
What it doesn't make during theatrical release (and it'll easily win the weekend), it'll make as much or more in Blue Ray/DVD sales. Released just in time for Christmas...
The Easter Eggs in the first were great. Pixar spends an extraordinary amount of time on research. They spent three months going down the remains of Route 66 (and what was route 66) looking for inspiration/objects/stuff. And "Mater" is a result of that trip, amongst other things.
There Will Be Blood. VERY good movie. Loved the ending.
Mrs. Husky is taking the pups and meeting me at the theater after I get off work at 1600. Movies starts at 1625. I still watch Cars1 to this day. My boys and I love it. Also, I don't care about the reviews it got. I can form my own opinion.
I loved the first one, fortunately I have my wife's 2 nieces visiting so I have someone to take to see the second one.
Just got back from C2. Tanner and I loved it. I can't wait for the DVD/BluRay... So much overload on the cool stuff! Lost count of Miatas and S2000s!
And here I thought I was the only one that watched Cars obsessively enough to catch the headlight flash.
For the people that saw it, how did they do replacing Paul Newman as Doc?

The headlight flash was even better than Herbie's antenna "sproing" in Herbie - Fully Loaded.
I'd like to see Cars 2 at the drive in, in the Valiant, but the AC's not done yet and it's hot out there ...

There was an almost tasteful scene about it, more of a "Doc would be proud" while in the Museum from the end of the last movie.
