So for the zombie apocalypse, what firearms do you want?
I have a CZ52 and an M44. Both capable of blowing large holes through wood and metal. Both dead simple and both retardedly reliable (though firing pin is possible issue on cz52, its like an $8 part and an easy fix. personally mine has been though a few thousand rounds and never had a problem).
Mine are both in firing condition. Both half a century old or more at this point. Both had a few thousand rounds though them. Is that justification enough?
If the zombies come in thick enough that my semi auto pistol and bolt action rifle don't save me, then I think even if I had an AK to fend them off for a while, I'd still end up dying.
everything I have, and maybe some more.
Now, in this ZA, are we "hunkering down and playing defense" or are we "mobile and on the go"?
For hunkering down and staying put, you'll want something with distance. I'm thinking:
Make that in .308 with a couple thousand rounds in stock. Then, when the hordes come, we'll need some more firepower. I'm thinking this:
an -74, chambered in 5.45 with 30, 30-rd mags and a couple thousand rounds of ammo. When they get into the house, this:
This one I'm actually planning on building. I have my Mossberg 500 sold to fund this one. 12ga Remingtong Model11 with an 870 +3 tube extension.
Then, when that runs dry, and I get tired of using it as a club:
I've got 7 mags for this one ready to go... and I have to say I absolutely love the springer loaded. After it, I got to the backup:
Dump the 13 rounds outof it, then the 10rd.... and that leaves me with:
Now, if I'm down to the Rossi, I'm taking 4 more with me and saving the last one for me....
Now, if we're talking mobile:
With these:
This is my backup:
with this:
and we're loaded into this:
Taurus .357 revolver for oh E36 M3
Marlin Model 1894C (allows me use the same ammo as the revolver, .357 or .38) for mid range
Saiga 12 for close
Savage 111FL Hunter 30-06 for long range
Crossbow for silent kills

Mobile with a vehicle.
Noise attracts more zombies. .22 to the noggin will penetrate and ricochet inside the skull. Scrambled brains. Dead zombie. Much quieter than trying to be rambo.

BingBingBing!
Suppressed 10/22 with hollowpoints and all the 25 round magazines you can carry.
My .308 AR, my 2.23 AR, and my .45 1911 for my walking around tools. Maybe my bolt action .30-06 for for long range and my Browning Upland Birdspecial 20 gauge for close quarters.
For long range my FN PBR XP with can (sniper rifle), mid range AR carbine again with can, close range Mossberg 590 A1, and "Oh E36 M3" range my SIG P220. These are things I have so easy grab and go.
Now a few things from a wish list: Dragunov with can for long range, AK74 for mid range with can (gotta love cheap ammo), Benelli M4 for close and SIG P226 for last ditch.

.22 rimfires are notorious for NOT reliably getting into the brain bucket, and just zinging around under the skin. At least on the living.

Practice makes perfect. Zombies move slow so you have plenty of time to aim.
Coarse according to this paper it will all be useless cause we will all be turned or dead.

Zombies are notoriously hard to kill. Some are even headless. You don't want to go throwing .22 rimfire at em, thats for damn sure. Might just make let them develop a tolerance to hot lead.
You really want something that will render their bodies physically unable to move.
I saw a belt fed saiga in this thread. I've never seen that before. I think with an unlimited budget, I'd probably choose that. Thats gonna be pretty hard to beat.
In reply to Giant Purple Snorklewacker:
Nice! The sound of a zombie getting wanged with that would be sweet.
