In response to the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial, an Oklahoma woman has started a petition on change.org, to encourage a new federal law.
"Caylee's Law, contact your Senator and Representative: there should be a new federal law created called Caylee's Law that will make it a federal offense for a parent or guardian to not notify law enforcement of a child going missing in a timely manner."
Already has 250k+ supporters.
Catch 22. Notify them and get that manhunt started, then realize you totally forgot your child went swimming with the neighbor kid for the day. Get in trouble for filing false reports and such. Seen that sort of thing happen more than once.
The bill has good intentions, but brings with it plenty of problems.

I also don't think a law is required. I guess what surprises me about this case is "what the puck happened to these so called adults"? Why weren't the grandparents running to the police a WEEK after this kid went misssing? (Keeping in mind that degradation of the corpse after a few weeks/months? made forensics impossible.) I haven't really followed this case, so I also don't know "what's the deal with the father?"
One of the persons interviewed for ABC-News suggested that there really WASN'T anything all that unusual about the mom going out and partying while the child was missing. "Some people cope in ways that might seem unusual, but we don't know how we would cope until we are in that position".
It's sad that there isn't some kind of balance that can be achieved between being a "nosy neighbor" and a concerned citizen.

You know, I get that people doubt that Casey is innocent. What I don't get is people that think she should have been convicted. There was no proof that she did it. The prosecution blew it. She got off because she should have. I don't like it, but I also can't say I know she did it, because like I said there wasn't proof. I will say that there are a lot of unanswered questions and suspicious information. There is definitely something funny going on in that family, but what I can't say, and IMO neither can anyone else if they're honest and objective in their thinking.

Bingo. I'm amazed at the people I've seen complaining about this, according to them, evidence is irrelevant because we all knew she was guilty. Of course, they're generally the same people complaining about the miscarraige of justice when someone they think is innocent is convicted.

Why don't you protest the E36 M3ty job done by the prosecution rather than the proper decision made by a jury of peers with the evidence provided.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Petition for forensic training. My neighbor's house was robbed a couple years ago and one of the thieves was stupid enough to leave a fingerprint on a glass vase. It took the cops 2 weeks to show up and recover the fingerprint, destroying it in the process. Only reason they caught the berkeleys was they attempted to rob another house on the street and were held at gunpoint until the fuzz showed up.

I am going to start a petition on change.org to do away our criminal justice system entirely and submit every criminal trial to Nancy Grace. She will present the case on her show in her usual 'unbiased' manner. She will then interview a few angry members of the mob protesting in front of the CNN studios. After that, we count the protest signs in front of the studio for and against and we throw the defendant into the angry mob. Not only would that do away with all of those pesky lawyers and judges, but the ratings would go through the roof!

This was a case where the jury had to step up and do the right thing. Okay, so the prosecution didn't dot their i's and cross their t's. So what? You can take one look at the woman and know that she did it.
Thirty years I've been a registered voter and not once called to jury duty. I can hardly wait...
