Don't ever buy a British car mag then. For the last 5 years every issue of every mag HAS to have a watch article. I just don't get it.

So are there any regular car mags worth getting? I get GRM, CM and grab Motorsport and Evo from time to time. R&T and C&D both jumped the shark, tripped over the tuna and got spit out by the minnows well over a decade ago. Is there anything out there in the way of 'regular' magazines worth reading anymore?

R&T has gotten better.

Holy crap.... a California Cheap Skates catalog!!!

I completely forgot about CCS. They used to be like getting a new Summit catalog when I was 12! I remember looking at all the new skate stuff in there and going to the local surf/skate/snowboard shop the next town over and buying it from them. Keeping it local FTW!

To bring it full circle, the dudes that ran that shop were car guys. Like GRM-style car guys. They introduced my friends and I to Alfa GTV6's, Nissan 200SX Turbos, VTEC Hondas that didn't look stupid, and Turbo Buicks. One of them even had a Maserati Biturbo that actually ran!!! When they closed up shop, it was a sad, sad day. I wonder what they are up to now...

That's my everyday as well except swap in a VIR/Devo/OFF!/Mooneyes T shirt.

I realized at the track last weekend that once I get back from qualifying, I'm in unpadded bike shorts and my oversized, filthy malodorous Sparco Nomex undershirt, frantically working on the car, pausing briefly to race, then frantically packing and loading - and there's never time to change.

Still waiting for cargo shorts to jump the shark. Especially the ones that go down to your ankles. When do shorts just become highwaters? At least those stupid little dangly laces on the cuffs seem to have gone away.

Points to me to be the first to use "hipster" to describe the style in the OP.

Definitely agree with you on that. I've been a subscriber off and on for 25+ years, probably the last 15 consistently. But I've seen enough comparos of SUVs. Though the reality is they're just catering to the market...look at how many of those things sell every year.

There was a famous day in my life years back. Remembering back to the house i lived in at that time it had to be over 10-18 years ago.
I used to live for C&D. One day, C&D and GRM arrived in the mailbox the same day. I read GRM cover to cover before I even opened C&D. Subscription of C&D not renewed.

On Thursday of last week I spent 8 hours (9am to 5 pm) transporting a sailboat and then 13 hours Friday night to Saturday morning (6pm to 7am - overnight) racing the same boat.
Court style New Balance white leather shoes.
I have owned "boat-shoes" but find they lack real lateral support for actually racing sailboats.

In my experience white-water rafting, canoeing on ponds/streams, and in fishing boats and ski boats, I'm either in gym shoes or flip flops. YMMV. I'd planned on using crocs when/if I get my sunfish/butterfly/laser.

No offense, but you've seriously got me re-thinking my weekend wardrobe. Do I get points added or deducted for checkerboard slip-ons?

GRM should do an April Fool edition with a watch comparison. Timex vs old Hamilton pocket watch vs 1980s digital vs sundial or something.

Next, cigars. White Owl vs, well, whatever other cheap crap is out there (I don't smoke, so my knowledge is a bit limited).

I'd then suggest wine, but GRMer's don't drink wine. It would have to be a beer comparison, such as Miller Lite vs Iron City vs Lion's Head vs Knickerbocker.

Brilliant ideas. You're welcome. I will enjoy my free subscription as thanks.

Mine are similar except replace welding burns with oil stains...

I'd think an article on making wine out of frozen grape juice concentrate would be perfect for your April Fools issue idea. Grassroots wine!

I cancelled my 20+ year subscription to C&D earlier this year. I can wait an extra week and read all their articles on their online blog. Saves paper and the annoyance of pages being ruined from humidity because I like to read them while I'm in my 'office'. I'd have C&D's dating back to from before I was born(probably from 1978-ish or so) if my mom wouldn't have thrown them out when I moved out from their place to Phoenix 7 years back. She promptly filled in the void with moar hoard!

John Phillips is still probably the best automotive writer on Earth, and it seems he rarely actually writes about anything automotive. I'd still rather subscribe to GRM. Too bad Sport Compact Car died, they actually had some decent articles. Seems like their guys got spread around between MotoIQ, Edmunds, and the like.

Freakin' Edmunds pisses me off now that they're InsideLine branch got borg'd into the main site. God I hate Edmunds' main site.

Wardrobe from Sam's, Walmart and on occasion, Kohls. Shoes are the only thing I spend money on. At work I'm usually wearing Merrells. At home, Nike or Avia tennis shoes or Keen sandals. Boat shoes kill my feet. Besides they are so 1980.

Pants are cargo, shorts are hiker and I look damn good in a suit.
