I will preface this by saying that, while I'm not technologically illiterate, I know little about the magic smoke that makes cell phones work. Please use small words.

Phone is question is a Motorola G4 Play running Marshmallow (T-Mobile have been very slow indeed about getting the Nougat updated pushed to this phone). Never used Bluetooth previously, so I have no idea if this is a new problem or something the phone did (or more accurately didn't do) from the start. Bought a Bluetooth adapter for my 128i; it's a Tune2Air unit that is the go-to option among the E82/88 crowd, and it seems to be working as intended.

The problem is that the Bluetooth connection drops out every 10-12 minutes when streaming music (which is the only thing I want to do with it, and the adapter doesn't handle the phone side in any case). I've done some looking and tried the only concrete suggestion I found - turning off Bluetooth searching in Location - to no avail. Any other thoughts as to how to proceed before I discover how far I can launch a Motorola phone across the front lawn?

My WAG guess- the transmitter in the phone is failing for whatever reason. When my network used to drop out,  it turned out to be a faulty router, so...no signal. The other possibility is- the recieved dongle is failing. Best way to test this is to find another known working phone.  Use it with the reciever.  If signal still fails, it's the dongle.  If it works,  it's on the phone end.

I've occasionally limped along by turning off other radios on a device. Try killing WIFI and NFC in your phone settings and see if your cut-out time is better.

Yep, that's the planned next step. I'll see if I can get that done tomorrow. I've got a feeling it's a phone problem, but testing will tell me for sure. If I'm right, the problem is I have no idea how to proceed further, so I'm hoping to be proven wrong.

My oooooollld Galaxy s4 mini will do this when it is marginal on WiFi reception.  Whenever the WiFi drops it does something to lose Bluetooth connection.  If I run on mobile data with WiFi turned off, no problems except the data usage.

Tested with my GF's phone. It's definitely a phone issue, not a Bluetooth receiver issue. Where I go from here is an open question. My phone doesn't have NFC, and the WiFi is off, so those aren't impacting it.

I was searching around and found this - https://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solution/MS111301 - no idea if it will help in your case, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

I had the 'opportunity' to support a fair number of mobile devices at one point.  Sometimes the best option seemed to be to back up everything, perform a factory reset,  and restore the data.

it seems as if there is a fix. This particular phone was still on nougat,  but I have to imagine marshmallow does it the same. I honestly don't know, I pretty much never use Bluetooth. I still use cords for plug E36 M3 in.

I was using a cord to plug the phone into the audio system, but the location in the 128i (under the center armrest) makes it less than convenient. Sadly, my Bluetooth scanning has been off since Day 1, so that's not what's causing it. I'll sit down with it and try the cache clearing thing, but I'm not exactly optimistic. Thanks guys.

I had a similar issue with a Motorola droid turbo 2 phone the issue was solely within the app used in my case. Google Play would only play music for a set time then time out. I switched to Amazon prime music and it played with no issues. Same for web music.

I never found a permanent fix but the soft reset of the phone helped.

Also my workaround was to get my music playing through the phone speakers, then turning on Bluetooth and it would stay on.

Also try another Bluetooth adapter. I found the most popular thing may be the most popular because the Apple plus one other major phone maker (Samsung, LG, Moto, Google, etc) products work well. The others have issues.
