I am aware of his past. I remember him from the 80s. I also know where he stood on the current mess. I did not interject politics. OP did by posting this
Same rules should apply to all.
I neverpl post in fun post for a reason. Here the reason for posting is clear.
This should have been locked in the initial post with a warning.
I hate double standards.
The title is a name and R.I.P. Can we have a list of any other names that shouldn’t be mentioned should they pass? Joe Jackson isn’t doing well but seeing how he treated his kids it might be hurtful to bring up.

When I started this thread didn't mean to create a E36 M3storm. I merely wanted to celebrate a special man's life. He was an intellectual guy whether you liked his politics or not. A great thinker. But that's not even the point. Annie and I are now listening to the audio version of his book ... an Amazon best-seller. Anybody who's reeling to disparage this man on account of politics should read or listen to his writings. We can all learn from his wisdom.
Oh, color me interested! Please do highlight everyone of my misdeeds in the “Military Industry” ( whatever that is).
Please ignore if the above is in jest (or do, so I can see what you are getting at).
If not PLEASE do expound on you comment, I am VERY interested in your perspective, and I agree everyone does need to know this!
In reply to Wally :
How in the hell would Joe Jackson be political? Seriously? What an asinine comment. A talking head whose only job was pushing extreme views on a propaganda channel vs the dad of famous singers? Just stop.
In regards to the less then objective opinion article on CK (from what appears to be a socialist website?):
I can sort of see through the rather obvious vitriol, that CK appeared to be what some might call (in a rather slanted way) a “war lover”. A more objective person might say he believe in security through strength and the projection of strength. This is not exactly a wildly uncommon view in some circles. If a certain person here would wish such people dead, then that is a lot of people.
Well, I do have to say I have learned far more about CK from this thread than I ever knew. I am sure I would not agree with him in many discussions, but that still does not mean I do not respect his opinion or revel in his death.

OK now, if you read his post, clearly he is not talking about politics directly.
He is referring to the fact that some people can be easily offended by almost anything remotely related to politics they don’t agree with (see your first post for an example). And, if we are to be concerned about avoiding offending such people, should we not be concerned about people who might be offended by an RIP post on someone, who although accomplished some significant things in the music industry, likely did so by way of being rather abusive to his children.

Can't say I'm shocked this thread went to E36 M3 as fast as it did.
I do apologize if my participation is helping perpetuate this thread, but I am absolutely fascinated (and frankly a bit scared) by some of the thought processes going on here.
In reply to iadr :
Okay, you are obviously just trying to get this thread locked to silence others. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.
In reply to markwemple :
Of all the things to be angry about an obituary on the internet seems kind of silly. You could always take some joy in knowing that in exchange for having a different opinion than you he was confined to a wheelchair and died from cancer.

Go berkeley yourself BOOST-nutcase. I have truth and facts, and you have what? Nothing.
A warmongering bully on this board praising a war mongering bully who made a career out of picking on those who lack his "strength". Riiight.
Yeah I'd silence the evil piece of E36 M3 that is Aircooled, anytime, maybe in a dark alley.
I'm quoting this to show an example of how NOT to act on this board. Go scream at your monitor other places on the Internet. A hallmark of this site is the fact that we generally share ideas civilly and without such hostility. Screaming and name calling are not effective ways to make a point.
Now, Let's Ignore the completely inappropriate fact that you called a fellow member an "evil piece of E36 M3", and then threatened to "silence" them in a dark alley for just a moment. Do you see no irony in the fact that you hated this man because you consider him a hostile, militant, supporter of violence, and yet your reaction to anybody remotely supportive of him has been extremely hostile, militant and you've threatened actual violence? Hypocrisy much? Do better.
I rarely agreed with the man, but like Wally says, he made me think. He was intelligent, articulate, and not afraid to say he was wrong. The world needs more people like that, not less

The only summary of the matter that is correct. Period.
Aircooled, you should be ASHAMED of yourself.
For those member of the board who aren't keeping track, Aircooled is a life long MURDERER through his career with the military industry, and deserves to be treated as such, and not welcomed here.
Sheesh.. looking to add to the patio ?

This has got to be a joke right? I find it hard to be believe someone could be this irrational. He can’t still be drunk (or whatever), right?
Now, iadr, I really do want you to tell everyone about my time in the “military industry”. I really, really do. Please do this before they lock this thread, or boot you.
As for the death threat.... nice. You sir, are digging a hole of irony I have never seen the likes of before.
TO THE MODS WHEN THEY GET THIS FAR - I would like to make a strong formal request that you forever ban iadr, from this board. For some reason, I feel having my life threatened because someone doesn’t agree with what I say should not be tolerated.
Look at it this way iadr, it will give you more time to spread you “message of peace”

I wish this had not jumped off the tracks, but the military put bread on my table for 42 years; I respectfully disagree. As I said before, Krauthammer was a fighter for doing all that he did (whether you agree with it or not) under quite adverse conditions and should be respected and remembered for that. It's not and should never have been political.
Dan
Dan, he was a political talking head who pushed, very strongly, a far right position through a propaganda tv station. Anything to do with him was and is political and always will be by his choice.
When Jimmy Carter passes, hopefully not for a long time, it won't be political. The majority of his life was helping others outside any political realm.
In reply to aircooled :
His language was extreme, but how do you feel threatened? He asked for you to be banned, just like you are.
So, if someone like Rachel Madow passes (or someone similar), it should not be mentioned? Could someone not just say “I did not agree with her opinions, but I respect her conviction”? Or, “I respected her commentary”. Maybe not? But I honestly think we are above being offended by that.
I suspect you will say CK was different because he promoted death. I realize you cannot relate to his way of thinking, but I suspect he would explain how sometimes war / death / killing become a necessity to avoid even more death and misery (WWII might be an easy example here).
To be clear, the OP said “I loved his intellect, and his intelligent political commentary”. He did not even say he agreed or disagreed with him, the political vitriol came from you.
I am also sure, you could find a number of people who could find fault in Carters politics, despite his rather impressive post-presidential activities.

Seriously? Did you not read what he posted?:
”Yeah I'd silence the evil piece of E36 M3 that is Aircooled, anytime, maybe in a dark alley.”
How is this not a direct threat? How is this a request to ban? Is a ban officially done in “a dark alley”. Please explain, either you or I are clearly missing something.
I was referring to the not welcomed here.
Personally, I never take online threats as real. People say crap all the time. I'm 6'4", 210 lbs and can handle myself. Most people back off in person.
It's the craziness of our disjointed universe now. Just like politicians and talking heads pushing war that have never even been in a fist fight.
I agree. I am not truly afraid he will hunt me down.
I have no problem with him (or you) disagreeing with me. I don't care if he verbally attacks me, I can take it (although definitely not allowed on this board). I do really think, the threat of physical violence is very much a bridge to far, and should not be tolerated. Just my opinion of course.
And, yes, it is crazy, how some people cannot conceive of how war or military threat might be an unavoidable necessity (nice how you just put that there in the end) to save lives in the long term. BTW - I am in no way supporting CK positions, just pointed out that it is not a black and white issue and because he was clearly wrong about some of his predictions does not condemn everything he says.
