We're thinking of you and the many friends we have down there....

What an absolute shame. I lived in CT at the time of Sandy Hook, healing takes time and attention.

I was just In Charleston on vacation a few weeks ago (mid may). Hard to believe something like this went on in that city - so many churches, such a religious place. I think we will likely see a different reaction from that community than we've seen lately to similar attacks in other cities...likely to be at least less severe and violent, probably a lot more dignity and class

Probably because they'll call it what it is.....the actions of a degenerate POS.

OTOH, I'm just going to stay away from the news for awhile. The Brady bunch will be getting far too much air time again...

You know, a long time ago, I learned there were some berkeleyed up people in this world. Unfortunately, every once in a while, they have to remind us that they exist. It's a shame.

The system seems to be working, hopefully the citizens will give it time to do its work.

Now if only the politicians would just keep their mouths shut.

Thanks for the thoughts Iggy.

This is not the time nor place to bring up "the brady bunch". Keep it civil and on point.

Wasn't my intention, just a musing of the unfortunate truth.

Anyways, they caught the degenerate POS alive, so that's a plus. I have a feeling he won't be alive long without protective custody in jail/prison.

I have no problem with him not making it a day in jail or prison, my only hope that if he doesn't that his death is caused by being pulled apart limb by limb. I'd only feel bad about the guilt others may feel for their actions against this subhuman if that occurred.

Of course it's not the nut job shooter, it HAS to be the lack of gun control.

Oy!

I admit that I didn't get the "brady bunch" part, but I asked. We have enough political threads.

And I agree with you, and I'm still saying this!

A friend brought up an interesting thing to consider. As the violence occurred at a church, it could be considered a terrorist act. I'm all for whichever legal course leads to more harsh treatment and punishment for the perp, terror or hate crime.

Pretty sure this qualifies as a hate crime. SC has been know to use the death penalty as well. If he doesn't get off as a mental, this will probably go down as 1st degree and he'll be a deader. Assuming he survives prison, SC will inject him.

My son has found out that one of the women, was a coach at his school, and he was in theater with her son.

It's just a bad situation all around.

A tradgedy no doubt. I don't understand the concept of "hate crimes". It's not like other murders are committed with love.

I'm glad they caught the suspect and I wonder what type of antidepressent drug he was on.

At the current rate there will be 9 people murdered in Chicago in the next week or so, but those people will go quietly and unnoticed as compared to the Charleston 9. No Presidential speeches, no candidate disussions or sound bites. They will just be dead.

The difference being, that is close to the number of murders Charleston has in a year.

Either way, the political speeches are disgusting.

And on top of that, this one was in a church. It wasn't a gang shooting on the corner at 3AM. This is scarier. It could happen to anyone, at a Church, Movie Theater, School, etc. But you won't find me walking in Englewood or Garfield Park at 4AM.

The difference is that those killed in Chicago are overwhelmingly gang members who are shooting at one another. This tragedy in SC is a totally different thing. Those folks in the church were innocent. Gang-bangers are not. It's sad what is happening... but it's not even close to the same thing.

From what I have seen....the perp had been to this church before. Kind of sounds like one in the group was particularly targeted, and the rest were just collateral damage.

In reply to TJ:

They are an additional factor to use during sentencing to raise the punishment. Nothing more, although I do share your sentiment that they aren't necessary.
