Is that what they are doing?!
Been watching them move a LOT of dirt around and couldn't figure out why
Looks very interesting but judging by the site and plans this will likely be a club, track day, and rental etc track rather then holding any major race events. But who knows maybe the end plans will. Charlotte has never built anything there that hasn't hosted major events.
Well that's exciting. I bet TNiA will move over to there so that they don't have to open the main facility. Charlotte is the closest track to me so I'm excited to see it finished

Where are you located? It's close to me, too. Im about halfway between it and VIR
This looks interesting, I HOPE they put SOME elevation in it. Current ROVAL has some.
I despise the roval. Would totally check out an outside the oval track.
Hopefully it will be considerably safer!

Why?
I do agree with the [very] limited run off there. LOTS of walls.

Because of all the walls about 4 inches off the racing surface. Makes road atlanta and Watkins Glen look like the tracks of the future.

I'm near Asheville. The next closest tracks to me are in the Atlanta area, though VIR isn't too much farther than AMP. Besides Charlotte, most southeastern tracks are 3.5-5 hours away.
So the thread title lead my poor Friday brain cell to think of an external ROVAL, still using parts of the oval and I couldn't process how that would work for access, stands etc. The link made me Homer D'oh myself.

That'd how the road course at New Hampshire International Speedway is laid out. Not that it's a great track but it can be done.
In reply to Adrian_Thompson (Forum Supporter) :
To be fair, that's exactly what New Hampshire speedway does.

Michigan International Speedway originally had a road course that went in and out of the oval. You can still see it on Google maps as part of the camping and parking roads.

Yes, I recall that race. We did fairly well, too.
Purple Frog (Forum Supporter) said:As did Thompson Speedway in Connecticut....
And it still does after getting rebuilt. Plus Texas world speedway did being a Michigan clone. And twin ring motegi although it doesn't actually use any part of the oval but goes inside. The old long road course at phenoix did go outside too.
