I'm letting my full beard grow for the first time, although I've rocked the goatee for almost 20 years. Although I'm kind of doing the no-shave-November thing I'm finding the neck beard both passe' and unflattering. I need a recommendation for a cheap-but-good electric razor to keep my neck shorn without resorting to my normal mug-brush-DE razor. What does the hive like for lightning-powered hair cutters?
Wahl Lithium Ion trimmer/haircutter set. ~$40, battery charges in 20 minutes or less and holds it for a month. I've had my current one almost 2 years without a problem. Small enough head to do intricate lines if necessary, I threw most of the accessories away because I just won't use them, but I'm pretty sure it had one of those round "foil" razor heads packaged with it.
Side note: it won't go to "babyface smooth" more like "day after a razor shave stubble", but I use it for head, beard, and keeping my goatee in line on a weekly basis.
I've got a Wahl trimmer for shaving my head btu i'm really looking for "babyface smooth" on my neck. Using the double edge razor has really spoiled me about a close shave. I know I won't get that close with any electric, but I'd like to get closer than the clipper type trimmer.
A rotary shaver head will cut a whole lot closer than a reciprocating trimmer. I have a Wahl unit that cuts much closer to "babyface smooth" than "stubble."
Man, electric razors tear me up. Have you considered an easier DE experience; with a shave oil or no-brush cream instead?
I believe Wahl is probably the least promoted brand. And based on personal experience, they're putting the money into the product. Good, and inexpensive.

Thought I was the only one. I used one when I was in high school, and around the first month of my senior year it started pulling and hurting real bad. Guess that was when my facial hair got thick and wiry.
My BIL and FIL insisted that I wasn't using a good one. I tried theirs, it was the same thing. No thanks.

Electric razors apparently, as part of their function, leave "microcuts" on the skin. No thanks!
my Futura only rarely leaves megacuts, that that's all operator error!
Another vote for wahl. I have a beard all winter and some sort of facial hair in the summer. Ive had the same wahl for 3 years and i have some thick hair.

I've had a barber use one of the Wahl trimmers that look like a little safety razor, and now I want one of them. Electric trimmers generally don't get me babyface smooth; they generally give me that "action movie hero perpetual two days' growth of beard" look instead. Now that I've switched to wearing a beard, I just use a regular razor to tidy up the beard once or twice a week, but getting one of the Wahl trimmers is tempting.
^That's what I do. I haven't found an electric razor which will cut my hair.
Trimmer gets down to 1-2 day growth and is a lot easier. Shave my neck at top of my head with a disposable razor.
