Since Progressive is being a bunch of dicks, they decided to drop my coverage after I've been a customer for probably 15 years, because they could never figure out how to send me bills, only notices that my coverage lapsed because I didn't pay the bills they didn't send me.
And you'd think having an aunt who's the VP of an insurance brokerage would count for something, but her firm is now quoting me $500/yr for minimum coverage from Safe...something. Safe Auto, SafeCo, I don't know.
Before I tell this underling to pound sand, somebody tell me I can do better for liability for a 25 year old pickup truck with a 31 year old owner who has a spotless driving record and no insurance claims ever.
I pay a small amount for liability on a 95 F150. American Family. I'll hook you up with my agent if you want. He'll at least quote you.
Sounds a bit high, but that could be your market. I think I pay $30 a month for the '90 Miata and that's a low use/not DD policy.
Remember with liability only, what you're driving doesn't matter as much, because you are paying for how much damage you might do to someone else.

Yeah, shoot me an email. I need somebody who's going to treat me right, since I'm about to buy a ton of insurance for my business, health insurance, possibly fleet insurance...
I am paying $73 a half for liability for a 1996 Ranger 4-cyl 2wd. I'm 34 and married with a clean record. I have Progressive.
Wish I had it that cheap... $1200/yr for a 100/300 liability policy on my 95 Dakota....
I wish my insurance would only cost 1200/year! Try being 19!
insurance on my 850r is 160ish every 6 mo
state farm
How is your credit score? It is a large factor in what your insurance rates are (believe it or not.) It may have even been a factor for Progressive dropping you.

Not making payments on insurance is a very effective way to get no or extremely high insurance. Making payments is your responsibility.
Majority of insurance companies use your credit rating/report to determine how reliable and safe you are and thus affect your rate or coverage.
Sounds like you need to find a good old agent who still knows how to manually underwrite your policy and then you need to pay the policy in full and no more monthly payments.
$500 a year sounds cheap... it's not?

i pay just under that for 6 months of basic state minumum liability on an 01 GTP and 87 GMC k1500 pickup thru State Farm.. i've also got a renter's insurance policy wrapped up in that, but that's pretty much free..
and, yes, Progressive is evil... they screwed me over a decade ago- got my license suspended, a $200 fine, $200 in towing fees, and a weekend in jail because i got a no insurance ticket on a car that i had insured thru them. screw them. Flo can eat a hundred bags of penises for all i care.

Go walk around your neighborhood. In a 5 mile walk, you'll see approximately 748 insurance agents offices from State Farm, Allstate, American Family, Farmers, and other independent agents. Walk into all of them, and ask for a quote. Go with the lowest bidder.
Or just go with one particular one of those listed above. Because it will help me out. New auto policy's with that particular company are good for my bottom line!

Well, it's more than I was paying previously, and since this is the first car I've insured (the rest have been motorcycles) that's my only frame of reference. Sounds like it's not far off based on this thread, so maybe I'll shut up and bite the bullet.

Do you have 4 hours of time? Call up a bunch of different agents/companies. Find out if it really is the cheapest.

I am paying under $900 a yr for liability only on 4 cars @ 26 w/ clean record.
Seriously, 3 cars with full coverage and liability on 5 more, plus a crotch rocket, and I'm under $175 a month. Pays to live in the middle of nowhere.
Any of us telling you what we pay for insurance is really going to be of no use to you whatsoever. Insurance rates are calculated on things very specific to you, and each company does it different. So shop around and see who gives you the best quote.
That said, trust me, $500/year is cheap.

Not really.....but that depends on what you drive, where you are, and who you're through. The older truck will be more expensive than a newer one though for the same coverage. The E21 is the most expensive thing I ensure at $288/yr.

It woudn't be $288 a year if it was your only vehicle.

Alex, do you have any more vehicles through the same insurer?

No kidding. I paid about $500/yr for my Cummins as a secondary-use car added to my regular policy. The TDI gets full coverage at a little under $1000/yr. I'm not price-shopping, though as I have no desire to switch from the agent we've been with for over 30 years. I live in a heavily populated suburban area and my 'registered' commute is 64 miles.
Paying the regular bill every 6 mos does make me love classic car insurance: 3 cars for under $300/yr.

Not at the moment. The girlfriend has her car with the agent who has our house, and my other two vehicles - motorcycles - have been off the road and uninsured for a while now.

Yeah, motorcycles are DIRT CHEAP when it comes to insurance.
When I turned 25 I paid $11/month for full coverage on my R6.
That's largely because their potential to cause serious harm/death to anyone other than the rider, and perhaps one passenger on the bike, is significantly less than a car.
