Hmmm....
Seems like a good idea. Which means that there's gotta be a reason its not. I just can't think of it.
Other option, do you want the screen? Only 16GB, but $1.55 also.... http://www.gearbest.com/mp3-mp4-players/pp_13034.html?currency=USD&vip=760153&gclid=CjwKEAjw3pTJBRChgZ3e7s_YhAkSJAASG9VrvgDfXMafZSDx7LHOyhzVnSUgCaKPN5tLYfRoPaTZzxoCEqzw_wcB
Or wiht screen for $3.88 http://www.gearbest.com/sling-bag/pp_123.html
or 21.85 for 8GB internal and 32 GB card.... http://www.gearbest.com/mp3-mp4-players/pp_428728.html
My only problem with my smartphone as an MP3 player is that I haven't found a decent user interface. I have to manually make playlists on my PC and then put them as folders on the phone.

Holy cow I cannot believe Apple isn't all over them for that thing.
Do you mean to say that not everyone has a drawer full of old cell phones?
I use and old Verizon Galaxy S/Fascinate at the gym. I started out with a bunch of MP3, but I got bored of them. Since the gym has WiFi, I turned it into (essentially) a dedicated Pandora player.
I just read a blog post about this. Lemme see...
$20 Android phones may be the cheapest iPod touch alternatives available
I took this a step further... I got a MotoG 4 Play edition with Amazon ad support for $99 and added a freedompop sim card. I get 700MB/mo free. I use google play music and store a lot on the device. When I am not on wifi, I have the data to get new tracks if I want. This could also be done with the Blu R1 HD for less, but limited to GSM networks if you also want it to be a backup phone.
I use a sprint prepaid (non-activated) Moto E on the bike for GPS/Speedometer/Music. $30 and I have been able to update it from the crappy 4.4OS to Android N (7)
Lightweight, replaceable battery and I believe it will swallow a 128gb card
go this route for $19.99 at your local BB: Alcatel Ideal 4G

I mean, sure I love having a higher capacity phone for every day use due to taking a lot of pictures and videos. But only for MP3 use? I think I would struggle to fill 64gb with music I would want to listen to.

Wow another person that uses FreedomPop, never thought I'd see that...
I ve bought a few refurbished phones from their site. Can't beat free service every month. You can get your free data up to a gig every month if you want it.
You can also just buy more phones and get more free service too. They have basically new smart phones that take memory cards, for $30 for just disposable smarts phones.
I use google hangouts instead of their (really bad phone) service but use the free phone/text minutes for calling Craigslist ads or people I don't want to hear back from.
You'll need to log in to post.
