I need to spray some cabinets and want a cheap spray gun. Any of the HF $20 numbers up to the task? It doesn't need to be perfect, just OK. It's for a house we are renting.
Thanks,
J

How thick is the latex? You might need a bigger tip. I have some of the $20 HF guns. One conventional siphon that I use mostly for primer-filler and a HVLP gravity feed, plus a couple other HF guns. I haven't tried latex in them, but they work well for auto paints.
I just bought a gun for spraying filler primer because the tip was too small on my current primer gun. I ended up with a Vaper gun with a 2.3 tip and 1 liter cup from Northern tool. It cost 60 bucks and works great for the real thick stuff. If you buy this gun you may want to remove the cup filter. I always filter while pouring the paint in the gun, so the cup filter is redundant and my filler primer (Evercoat Slick Sand) sprayed MUCH better with the filter removed. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200319467_200319467
They also have this one, which doesn't come with as many extras, but is cheaper and still has the 2.3 tip. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200319459_200319459
I think a cheap gun with a 2.3-2.5 tip would work. I've taken an HF gun and drilled it out to 3 for shooting gelcoat. OTOH, it's a rental - latex spray bombs????
And don't thin latex paint to get it through the gun. It promptly turns translucent, requiring coat after coat after coat to get a solid covering.
It's pretty thick latex, Behr semi gloss. I used this color latex on some of the other cabinets already, but rolled it on. It looks OK, but I thought spraying might be easier and give a slightly nicer finish. But if the gun is not going to work, I'll just save the money and roll on. My tenants won't know the difference, and if they do, oh well, buy your own damn house
