I thought this was pretty cool. Somehow he manages to play the lead, bassline, and something like a rhythm track on a single guitar:

I don't know if the delay effect is "real" or if he's just doing that with his fingers. I'm tempted to believe the latter. Awesome stuff.
Pretty cool, but why is he dressed like Sub-Zero?
Are you familiar with Charlie Hunter?

You beat me to Charlie Hunter. That dude is some kind of wizard. And Charlie does it without the delay/loop pedal (not to say looping's not cool).
Those are both cool. Charlie Hunter's stuff isn't so much my thing, but it's damn impressive. I've never even heard of an eight-string guitar, never mind seen anything with such a berkeleyed up fretboard. I can't even switch to an ergonomic keyboard...
Little bit different style of fingered acoustic, but I was so blown away when I first saw Monte Montgomery do Sultans of Swing.

I was sure it was a delay. Then I listened to some more of his stuff, and re-watched it... I think it's what he's actually playing.

I watched his fingering pretty close. I think it's his skill, not electronics.
Old school...Leo Kottke. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnQTC5ICGik

I mean, it's REALLY impressive. IMHO stuff this super-technical becomes emotionally devoid because it's more of a technical exercise than an expression of feeling. Guitar geeks love to masturbate over this type of thing.
That said, Tuck Andress can get a whole lot of accompaniment out of a guitar as well:

You beat me to it. He deserves more credit because of these.
Violin, ukulele, banjo

If it had strings he could play it and play it well.

Nope... still insanely cool, but there is a repeat set for twice his tempo. You can also tell because when he's playing the lower three strings, the same not repeats double time even though he's picking three different notes.
Still ridiculously cool.l

I'm with you. Am I impressed? Definitely. Could I ever do it? Nope. Do I like it? Nope. It is difficult for the sake of being difficult, and they lose the music for it.
Leo Kotke is as far into this "genre" as I'll listen to for pleasure, and even much of his stuff is too technical for me.
Thanks all for sharing the great videos. Here's a little 3 string for a change of pace.
Some of my favorite pickers:
Chris Thile: He's the one who looks like Dennis Leary, not Steven Wright. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afzl3A8o7vE
Sarah Jarosz: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0vFGDW0Ww8

I'm not gay, but I would have Lindsey Buckingham's children. Anyone who can play triplets and even rhythms on one hand is my hero : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9KfktaL9mI&feature=fvsr

My number 1 played song on Itunes is Faith River by Chris Thile. Such an awesome song.

For a guy that grew up local to me. Try Michael Kelsey. Yes, it's more of the over technical musical masturbation in the link. But, you should see what he can do with a loop box.
