Whoops. Misspelled engine.
I'm amazed that Chevy Truck didn't become a flame'. More amazed JPM just walked away from the car. Mock them all you want, but safety does pay off.

comment i saw on facebook: it's good to see that JPM has found something to crash into that no one has ever thought of before..
Let's face it--that took skill. I don't want to hear any more disparaging comments about NASCAR drivers.

Obviously it took tremendous skill, the only one that could do it was a F1 driver.
First racist comment seen: "Crazy Mexican wanted a free ride." Ummmmm.... Since when is Montoya Mexican?

If they raced in the rain, nobody would have crashed into the Jet dryer.
Glad everyone was alright. When I do watch racing, I watch it for the skill of the drivers, not for the misfortune of crashes.

Every Jesus I know speaks spanish
I did not expect jet fuel to burn like that. I thought it would look like Hiroshima. Bad, but not as bad as I thought.
It was plenty bad, that was just much less than what a plane uses, so I'd think it was as bad, just a smaller scale.
Since when did they put the dryers on the track for debris? I thought they always just picked it up.

Sparks were flying all night. Juan lost control and locked up the brakes. He was low enough that with the vehicle destabilizing, and the change in angle of the track, it sparked, so it was nothing but a loss of control. There really was nothing better he could have done.
I didn't watch the race. Is Daytona typically a "sparky" race?
Also, I'm fairly certain those jet dryers run on Kerosene. I know the units at NHMS do.

maybe like Michael Waltrip crashing outta the qualifying race

Night races in general usually are. They often run the softest springs they can to try and get the spoiler out of the air for less drag. The cars bottom out a bit. You don't notice it during the day but at night the sparks are very noticable.
The car BROKE. Plain and simple. He was in the pits having the vibration looked at, when they sent him out to catch up to the field so that he didn't get lapped sitting in pit lane.

They certainly succeeded in not having him lapped while he was in pit lane...
I don't know what more he could have done. Something definitely broke. You can see the sparks before he started skidding towards the truck. Luckly he wasn't going faster.
What could have happened? Looks like the diff locked up, but why would that spark externally?
In reply to Brotus7:
Under locking up there's bound to be some vertical movement. That combined with a progressively banked track making the car even lower to asphalt than it appears results in sparkyness.

Jet fuel IS Kerosene. I am sure there are some minor refining differences though and I suspect the dryers run on Kerosene since they don't require whatever extra processes they do for Jet Fuel (aircraft engine rated etc.)
It was actually the first time I watched some NASCAR in a long while. I have to say, I was expecting some wild time on the restart (they were really hyping it up).... crickets.... I made it through about 10 laps of the formation car parade and got bored... oh well.
LOTS of hype, not a lot of results.
Did anything of interest happen in the last 10 laps or so? (other then a parade line of brightly colored cars that it)
