Our local Children's Theatre Troup will be putting on Chitty Chitty Bang this December. The Troupe has looked at renting a car: www.chitty.rentals which is MOST awesome... but on our budget the transport is killer. California to PA and back; truck freight; etc.

This is the car. How realistic is it to think we could build one that is safe for the kids, realistic looking, and would not need to be rugged enough for years of productions for Challenge money in the time available?

I really like the wooden cross/caster undercarriage idea (WAY better then having kids drive!) and it seems that we could do a LOT with luan or even foam board and vinyl wrap for the metallic stuff.

The question of building a Chitty Chitty has been raised before but I am not sure if there was an actual solution.
