I'd almost forgotten that for decades American cars were covered with the stubborn and well-deserved stink of mediocrity, until Chrysler reminded me. Was that the intended effect?
Edit: Or were they trying to remind me that Chrysler is Italian-owned?
Stupid commercials are stupid. Worst vehicles I have ever owned, driven, or wrenched on were Chryslers. Close second was a Fiat, although at least it had a certain amount of style to balance the horrible engineering.
Thankfully, Ford is out there making some very nice cars.
I think that they are trying to say that their cars are as good as the imports, but it's an American company and their cars are built here in the US.
At least that's what I assume.

I think they are no more or less insipid than most other car ads. I do appreciate that they are trying to promote my old hometown. I really wanted to love the new Dart a few years back. I didn't.
It's kind of like those (chevy?) commercials where a surprised customer says about a car they like "this is a chevy?"
Anyone who thinks at all about that will say "so, you are saying, normally our stuff is crap... but this one is an exception".
Clearly they expect few people to think about.
Yeah, they are saying their cars are as good as imports now. We will see.
I do have to say I find the new 200 to be a lot better looking than the Sebring and 200 that it replaced. If the initial quality is up to par then yes they will have a strong contender.
Isn't the 200 made in Canada? i.e., it's imported TO Detroit?
Buick adds follow a similar vane.
But if you want performance and do all sorts of crazy stunts, you need a Camry or an Altima.
Yeah Toyota's recent ads are reeking of desperation.
"Our new cars are for wacky cool young people, see? Please buy one, Gen. Y'ers, they're not just for your grandparents who aren't driving anymore!"
In reply to Keith Tanner:
I'm pretty sure the 200 is assembled at Sterling Heights Asssembly. The Charger/Challenger/300 is assembled at Bramalea ,Ontario.
the intention of the ads was to get them into your skull and stay there... now you are talking about it online.. maybe someone will stop into a Dodge dealer because of this thread..
New fords and gms are awesome. Dodge is still pretty meh,but definitely better than it was.
I find that the import companies have very little high value midrange selection nowadays. They either have low budget econo cars (which are good cars) or expensive cars that get you awefully close to being in more "luxury brand" purchasing power.
On top of all of that, import manufacturers dont make many vehicles right now that suit Alberta weather/climate/conditions compared to the domestics. Its amazing how long it took the marketing people to realize people will GLADLY pay absurd money for awd in Alberta, I bet 50% of vehicles nowadays sold here are awd/4wd.

i bet 95% of the pickups on the road up there are 4 wheel drive... that's the way it's been down here for 25 years- a 2wd pickup is an oddity.. also, people love the so-called "crossover SUV's" because they have 4 wheel drive.

Im a mopar guy (well, I grew up that way) and I agree. Sink or swim on your own merits.
I rented a Chrysler or Dodge Camry about a year and a half ago. It didn't suck. I went with the Mopar specifically because I hadn't been in one in decades. Certainly no Toyota, but a step up from a Chevy.
Those ads suck. Chryslers are clearly not grounded to the ground.
Remember the Daimler-Chrysler "Merger of equals"?
In the words of the wise Dculberson, "Chrysler and Fiat, now there's a merger of equals".

I've had a Chrysler 200 as a rental a couple of times this year and liked it.... Solid car and drove really well.

The new one? That's good to here. The old 200, not so much
They are saying that you want a car from here:

I had a 200 as a rental a couple months ago and I though it was utter crap. It reminded me of a US car from the early 80's in the handling department. I think there were two separate teams designing the front and rear suspensions and they never spoke to each other. Very strange car, but as long as you went in a straight line I could see people thinking it was comfortable. Looks were ok. Driving dynamics suck ass.

I've insisted for a long time now that Chrysler didn't deserve to be saved the first time by the K car and minivan.....

Imported from a 3rd World Country!
Not the best ad campaign but about every manufacturer has had their bad moments, some just more than others. Who decides this E36 M3 anyway?
