Hey guys. I am looking to be OT champion. I am actually trying to get my hands on a nice chunk of interesting wood, like a burl, or a slice with bark or something which I can cut a flat face onto and use for a wood burning project for V day. Does anyone have anything like that laying around?
i've been told that i have nice chunk of wood, but i have no interest in having a flat face cut in it or having it burned. sorry i couldn't help.

ahhh - for once I neglected to run my post through the 'dirty mind' filter. Sorry about that.
No "running my post..." jokes either...
If only you were closer. I have a half dozen slabs in my barn, probably 3'-4' wide x 8'-10' long, and 4"-6" thick. I'd give you one.

Damn.
You try going to a tree farm or just wandering through the woods? I always find neat crap when galavanting through the wilderness like some great blundering beast.
1.Find a downed tree
2.Hack a bit off
3.Do what you planned
4.????
5.Profit
Local lumber mill sells exotics, zebra wood, things I can't pronounce. I can see if they have a cut out rack.
Got a size in mind?
Dan
Yeah, if we're talking "scrap" size, there should be a place that carries exotics near you. There's a place called Peach State in ATL that sells Ebony, Purple Heart, Zebrawood, Ambrosia Maple, etc., etc., etc.

Went there during lunch - nothing terribly interesting yet.

Went to the stash under the house. All of my logs were cracked and most had bark peeling. Time to look elsewhere. I'll grab some generic cross sections from the local craft store tomorrow if needbe. I have nothing else laying about.

Grabbed a hunk of aromatic cedar. I'll cut it ovalish and go from there...
