I occasionally troll CL looking for amusing scams. Dealer only, price 2500 to 3500, beautiful ad, no phone number. Have found that one third to one half of the ads in that range looked like scams. Today I checked Miami, Orlando, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Not a single scam ad. Did CL do something to clean up? Or did they all go on vacation?

When I posted an apartment for rent a couple weeks ago, I had to verify my post with an active telephone number (they call or text the number, you enter the code they give you). Apparently, if your ad gets flagged, they block that number from making new posts. Maybe they are using this sort of verification in the automotive section now too.

A. it's about time, though I did run across an ad just today that was posted in 2 cities....tho no location listed, for a '96 Impala that looked great and the seller wanted only $1500 for it.

B. I assumed the decrease in scammers was because tax season was behind us. I expect to see them either as the school year starts up or we get closer to the Thanksgiving-Christmas-New Year's holidays.
