Ok, got a quick one that I cant find thru google. Can you use the 2 part PVC cement (primer and glue) to bond Clear PVC with White? Im looking for a medium/long term fix for buried sump pump piping thats broken underground from settling, and its not gonna be fun to try to use all hard elbows to correct it - odd angles over a short distance (<5 inches). Anyone got any other ideas besides tubing to fix this?

If you are talking about the clear flexible tubing, I don't think that it is PVC and would say NO in answer to your question.

A quick way to test is to put some of the purple primer on the tubing, let it dry for 5 minutes, try to wipe it off with a wet rag. If it comes off the answer is definitely no.

When I worked in the hardware store we sold hose barbs made to connect PVC pipe to clear vinyl tubing.

Thanks Hal. The pipe is 1 1/2" ID, so those barbs are not gonna be big enough. I know they sell clear PVC tubing, but Im not sure how available it is. Im just trying to think outside the box. Id like to stay away from stainless hose clamps because the fix may be in the ground for a year or so, and those corrode kinda quickly underground...

I'm not in the know here at all, but two things stand out:

stainless steel corrodes in the ground?

Don't they make bigger barbs?

You need to find an old-fasioned hardware store or maybe a plumbing supply house. We sold both the hose barbs to fit 1 1/2" pipe and 1 1/2" clear vinyl tubiing.

Lowe's sells clear reinforced PVC tubing in that size range, along with barbs, adapters, etc. I used similar parts in hooking the vacuum up to my HF bead blaster cabinet. A stainless hose clamp should not corrode on you. It's Stainless. At least, by the time it does corrode, we will all be dead and it will be a SEP. Lowe's carries proper stainless worm clamps for that stuff was well. Look at the Fernco fitting lines of rubber connectors and clamps.

And if you don't find it there, there is always McMaster-Carr

woah...thanks guys!!! Im intrigued by the barbed fittings, they may be perfect! But I cant find any mention on the website at either Lowes or HD. The Depot will still be open by the time I get a chance to get out there, so I will check into them. I appreciate the help!

stainless steel corrodes in the ground?

a huge YES. Stainless isn't perfect, it just rusts a lot slower than regular steel.

but I don't think it will be long enough in this case to do much.
