tomorrow i load up the road warrior '96 Probe GT and head South to Clover SC. tuesday I look for a place to live. wednesday I start work at Performance Friction, an aftermarket / racing brake component R&D/manufacturer. i was talking to my old boss the other day, and he said that of all the people laid off in November, I'm the first one he knows of who's found a job. detroit is the suck.
anyone within 30 miles of Clover got a room for rent? it's just me, the PGT, and two bicycles.
Congrats Angry, rolling in Clover.
Pics when settled....

Hopefuilly Mrs.Corvair and the angry kids will be there soon. Good luck on the move.
I think I'm gonna leave the Detroit area, as soon as I come up with $20,000 to cover the shellac-ing I'll have to take on my house. And I'm one of the lucky ones, to have lost that little.
You're 100% right, detroit is the suck.
Now get PF to make E30 pads.
Congrats on the new job!
Welcome to the South! We'll learn ya how things is done down here.
Congrats and Good Luck!
My brother's couch is usually open, but it's up in Concord. Have a safe trip.
I changed my destination to Greenville SC for Monday night, which allowed me to stop for a brief visit at Jon Haas' excellent Fort Sanders Yacht Club in Knoxville TN. Tuesday I looked at a few "rooms for rent" that I found on the Charlotte NC CL, and settled on a furnished room in a pretty new house about 3 miles from work. I heart short commutes.
It was hard to say goodbye to the kids, but I think they've got their minds around the fact that I didn't move out, I just took a job that has me away from home for two weeks at a time.
It was also hard to hang up my clothes in someone else's closet.
Today was my first day at Performance Friction, and so far all is well. Tonight I'm going to work on the mountain bike, and tomorrow after work I'm going for a trail ride.
Thanks for all the good wishes. I appreciate them.

Welcome to the south! I'm up in Kannapolis. I had no idea Performance Friction was in Clover. Last time I was down that way, the part of town I was in was pretty quiet. There are lots of good dirt tracks in the area if you're interested. Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney S.C., Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., Over in Kershaw,S.C. there's Carolina Motorsports Park - a road course. And Road Atlanta isn't all that far away, just a few short hours. Even if you're not into dirt track racing, watching the late models run is pretty awesome.
I thought there was blood on the moon last night.
(Just kidding! Welcome to the durty durty South!)

Welcome to town.
I'd like to give you a proper southern welcome but I'm tied up with work and my dad's health problems.
Angry, be careful about 'proper Southern greetings'. Ever watch 'Deliverance'?
Glad to hear you found a place to stay. I didn't even think about looking on Craiglist. I haven't been through Clover in 20 years, but I know its a small town. Not sure it has a restaurant or a grocery store. York is bigger and at least has a Wallyworld. I think you will love the area, especially once you get your family down here. There are a couple of good state parks nearby (Crowders Mt and Kings Mt) with plenty of trials. The Dupont Forest is close enough in Brevard, NC and has great Mt bike trails.
If you like too hunt, there are plenty of national and state forest. Or join a hunt club.
Jenseman, that movie scared the crap out of me for years. While at Clemson, we used to trout fish on the Chatooga Rviver. I looked at everybody in that area as being "those kind of people".
Yeah, a couple times I've been on the mountain rivers, looked up and seen sheer rock walls on both sides and heard in my head: 'Bing bing bing bing BING bing bing'. There's T shirts: 'Paddle faster, I hear banjos.'
Angry, you aren't too far from the Sumter National Forest, all kinds of hiking mountain biking etc there. For some stupid reason it's 3 widely separated areas but is considered one National Forest. Good whitewater rafting in the far west area.
CCR-SCCA has autocrosses at Carowinds, just off I-77 at the NC/SC line, SCR-SCCA has them at the Michelin Proving Grounds in Mountville and at the BMW plant in Greer. There's the Wolf Ridge Hill Climb which is right outside of Mars Hill, NC on May 2/3 of this year.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!
Come visit. I'll give you some performance friction.
I just notice a large junkyard about 1 mile MW of the plant. I doubt its a you pull it lot though.
And, if you get bored, you can always drive down to my place and work on something. Couple of hours drive and almost everything you could need, including plenty of partially completed projects you can wrench on.

Wow, that's a kind offer. Certainly better than the "welcome" Mr. Shovel wants to extend (pun intended).

For some reason Deliverance was in the foreign films section at my local Blockbuster.

Should be in the local films section out in Red Lion...
I guess it could be considerd a 'furrin' film outside of the Deep South. 'Round here it's a documentary.
Wow....mountain biking AND working in the aftermarket.....cheers to you, dude. I bet the road biking is stellar too. You know a lot of the American based pro roadies train in the Carolina mountains, right? And the mountain biking is PLUSH. Pisgah trails and DuPont near the GA border are fantastic, and Asheville NC has a great scene. Should be easy weekend trips for ya. One of my college roomies was from Charlotte, and it always sounded like a great place to be. Kinda like Atlanta might have been 15-20 yrs ago in size.
Welcome to the best corner of the country.
