Anyways, seeing as I'm stuck working 7 on 7 off overnights currently, I have a lot of free time while the lady friend is at work. The plan is no more roommates and hopefully no more moving after moving back to mn in august. What brands do I want to look for/stay away from and what brick and mortar stores still carry them? Going to be looking at mostly 1/18, unless I can't find a certain model in that size.
I've been collecting 1:1 size toy cars. I'm about out of storage space for them at the moment.
We have a Hotwheels thread. Just sayin'.
Every time I leave the hobby store I have to make myself forget about the slot cars. Sooo many awesome makes and models from all different eras - I'd be broke before I'd collected a fraction of the cars I liked.

The five 1:1 cars I own in various states of need have done a reasonably job of dissuading me from collecting slot cars. Although I have one friend who catches me when I'm weak from time to time - like last week when a link he sent had me buying 4 more bodies I don't need. But how could I say 'no' to a Stratos?
1/18 take up a lot of space.
I collected vintage (pre-1970) Matchbox toys for years. They didn't take up lots of room and always went up in value. The new stuff will never be very collectible, because they aren't toys that get used/destroyed, so the rarity will never be there. If you go with modern stuff only buy what you truly like, and expect it to go down in value. The only 'new' ones I've bought that went up were a couple of limited run cars, and even then they generally only double what you paid.
As I've become older, having all this stuff sitting around has become far less appealing and I've sold off most of it. I now only have one display case of stuff I truly am into; mostly pop culture movie cars and replicas of things I've previously owned.
