Count me among the lucky ones too. I've ordered 5+ sets of tires from DTD and have had zero issues. Last time, after I put in a regular website order, a sales rep called me and told me I should cancel the order and buy them from their eBay store with a discount code so I could save $100+ off the order. They didn't have to do that!

That said, if I got the same level of service that the OP got, I would be on a freaking rampage. The stick-on weights on the tires are almost insulting at that point.

So I called today, they want me to take it to a tire shop to be re balanced. I have to send them the receipt and they will reimburse the cost. Pretty much what I expected, just another pain in the ass. Probably will never buy from discount tire again. It has been nearly a month since I placed the order, I probably wont be able to take the tire in until after Christmas. I still have to deal with the mail in rebate. I hope that goes a little more smoothly.

Tire Rack is good. Twice I said - screw it - I'll just drive over and get my tires. (90 minutes to SB). This was in their early days.

Tire Rack - E36M3 comes in a day or two, and it comes correct.

Pardon my ignorance, but aside from the initial issue, I am trying to see how this is another pain in the ass. It sounds like they are trying to make it more convenient for you to just take them to a shop of your choosing to get rebalanced instead of shipping them back again or taking them to a Discount store, which is not close to you. Then they will reimburse you for what you paid.

Yes if this wouldn't have happened in the first place, you wouldn't be going through it, but it did happen and they seem to have given you the simplest option for getting them rebalanced.

this. We ordered from TR at the dealership for 10 years. In 10 years I can't even remember a set of wheels/tires that they screwed up.

I may be speaking out of turn here, but it seems like the reason Its a pain is he placed the order hoping to pay his money and bolt on some ready to go tires in about a week. Instead it's a month later and he's got to find someone to do the job he paid them to do, have more money out of pocket, then wait 6 weeks to get that money back. I bet it takes at least two more phone calls to get the refund. I work in customer service so this kind of stuff gets under my skin.

Well he said "another pain in the ass" not a pain in the ass in general. That's why I said "aside from the intitial issue". I understand the frustration for the whole situation and if I was in his shoes I would be angry as well, but if this is their easiest option to fix their screw up, then so be it, at least they're taking responsibility and fixing it the easiest way possible for the customer.

My overall judgement is probably just clouded because I have always had a positive experience with Discount Tire. E36 M3 happens and no company is perfect. I have personally known Tire Rack to screw up some orders, but they always have fixed the issue. I have worked in customer service myself and it burns me as well, but when the company takes responsibility for their berkeley up, then I give them a break.

If he gets them rebalanced and they don't reimburse him, then yeah, they don't deserve anyone's business.

Good news, I dropped the tire off at a friendly local tire store on the way to work this AM. Came back to pick it up on the way home. They sent me out the door with a freshly balanced tire and didn't even charge me for it. Nice guys. Glad I don't have to deal with the DTD refund. Now I just hope the mail in rebates come through without a problem.

I was assuming because he has to wait to take them to a store in slick-E36 M3 weather while his lady slides around in slick-E36 M3 weather on tires that arent up for the task.

Yeah yeah I get it. I missed that part of his initial rant.

I have a local guy that can get me any tire i want for only a little bit more than any of the online places. Went to school with him and were in the same social circles back on the day- and our dads were friends when they were kids- so he treats me right.

I just bought 2 Continental tires for my wife's van. Just for shiggles, I priced them on DTD and I got them cheaper st the store.

I have used Tire Rack in the past especially if I wanted shaved tires but I found that my local store (Hogan Tire) can usually match the price. Mounting and balancing prices locally are steep so if you add this to the Tire Rack price the local place usually ends up cheaper. I have actually wondered if the local tire places are wise to the Tire Rack deal and have inflated the mounting and balancing costs for tires brought to them to compensate for things.

My local place usually has things in stock and if they are not they can get it in a couple hours. If it is something really weird they will have it the next morning. I also rely on them for tire advice for many purchases. The most recent was the tires I just got for my truck. Great tire at a out the door price that tire rack could not come close to due to having to add mounting and balancing costs to the Tire rack price.

On the flip side when I had my jag (AWD) and I needed to replace a tire that was damaged Tire Rack was the only place I could order it and have it shaved to match the tread depth of the other tires on the car. I thought what they charged for that service was really cheap. And it only took them 2 days to get the shaved tire to me.

As much as I love Tire Rack their pricing no longer seems competitive on anything I've priced in the last two years. I've placed two orders with DTD and both went smoothly (but all I ordered were tires). I'm not such a cheapskate that I would change vendors for $4 per tire but the pricing difference has been significant.
