I'm wondering who else in the GRM world has a love for sub-compacts. One ton or less, who else has them!!
Mine: Turbo'd '93 Festiva- gutted- 1662lbs.
Top that?

Sub-ton cars are awesome. Although they're beginning to become a thing of the past. Just saw your readers' ride write-up. That Festiva looks positively evil in matte black with a turbo hanging out of its eye. What's it like to drive?

Yeah! That's what I'm talkin about!
My 1st Gen RX-7 isn't there yet (2350 wet) but it's still all stock. After the bodywork and a diet it should be 1990 wet!
2nd Yugo hasn't been weighed in yet (under construction), but should be well under the 2000 mark...
...with a Northstar.
Mine (was) a 1989 Turbo Firefly. Weighed 1650 without me in it, working on obtaining another one (stupid rare):
I remember SCC magazine's Project Festevil. Tein makes some coil overs for an obscure Mazda that fits those things. (Something like a 232 or 121?) Are there any brake upgrades?
I keep thinking of CWS Tuning after reading Northstar...
I'd like to see a Turbo Sprint.
Nice....my kinda cars in this thread so far!
Sadly, I no longer have my Starlet which was right around 1700.
I have gotten my lightest AE86 down to about 2150...trying to find some more weight to shed without rendering it totally unstreetable.
My much-missed Ford Fiesta ( a proper Ford, not a freakin Kia) weighed about 1800 lbs: My Mini weighs about 1400 lbs (notice a style trend with me?):
Call me crazy (or normal around here) but that Fiesta is just about the prettiest car to grace this board in some time. How cool. Here in Northern Ohio they are all gone and all forgotten.

I loved my Chevy Sprint 5 door, until it started to leak from every drivetrain gasket, and not knowing enough about working on cars at the time, I got rid of it. No rust on it (though the paint was oxidized). Also had an 89 CRX HF. Another low power, lower weight fun time! It, however, had been hit multiple times before I bought it, and a huge rust home where the drivers feet went. Sold it for slightly less than I bought it.
While I realize it probably won't weigh under a ton, I had my sights set on the new Fiesta that Ford is supposed to have on sale in the U.S. next year....assuming they are still in business and that I'm still employed. I bought a '80 Fiesta brand new and thought that car was a gas to drive, tho it would have been nice to have a 5 speed transmission.
My most recent experience with a subcompact was a B18 powered '92 Civic CX. Light enough to lack power steering...and not miss it.

I'd like to think of it as a Mazda design licensed to Kia by Ford, but I digress
The Tein kit was actually just a coilover kit, I've got a Skunk2 kit meant for a civic on it right now, but the spring rates are less than "ideal" considering my weight distribution. You all know that you can order custom spring rates from Skunk2 or Ground Control, so that shouldn't be a big issue. Front shocks come from an '86-89 Mazda 323, the rears from a mid 80's VW Scirocco.
As far as brake upgrades, the Ford Aspire brakes are much bigger and can swap over with little modification, from there Mazda Protege LX/Ford Escort GT front rotors and calipers can be swapped over easily. That opens up your pad options. The rears are going to have to be more custom, but there are quite a few people who have done Escort GT rear discs, but it takes machining of the hub and a custom caliper bracket. Kinda not looking forward to making the rears, but it will probably be necessary given the power output
Well, there's the Mini. And Miatas aren't exactly big. The MGB GT, of course, is probably a sub-compact in dimensions other than height. And I used to run a 323 GTX for a daily driver.
my TR-7 was 2100 pounds with me in it...before I stripped it out.
2 of us can lift the shell and carry it places...

Scooby Doo, you got some berkeleyin work to do! That's still fat for a gutted Festiva! (I'd LOVE to see pics, though.) The old EP Civic was 1520, caged and wet, and still sporing the core support up front. I miss my girl.
EDIT: Just saw the pic on your profile. I've been admiring that car for a while now! Glad you're on the board!!!

^ My current build. 1990 Swift GT building to Spec Civic. Convinced there has to be another option in STS. Soon find out what it weighs (and more importantly what it sounds like).
73 Datsun 510 setup for H Prod racing. 1973lbs with me in it.
78 Austin Mini. I'm not sure of the weight but it has to be under 2 grand.
I recently got rid of my starlet because it got rearended. :( im hoping on getting another lightweight soon
nickle-dime, that Mini is well under 2 grand. Mine was 1450 lbs wet when I first got it, and that's without any attempt to lighten the car whatsoever.

I commented on that thread earlier today. I think the Swift is an excellent start. I've been wanting to tweak my wifes Protege LX a bit, I'm sure she would do well in STS L with it.
And That widebody 510 is HOTT!!! At first glance, I thought it was a E30 M3 cause I only saw the back end. Super slick!!

Sadly, so is that one. Between rust and a minor accident when a front spindle failed it went to Fiesta heaven. The last owner does have another very nice one now, however. And, autocrosser Mike Snyder just offered me his SP Fiesta which I sadly (?) can't afford and have no place for. It was featured in a long-ago issue of GRM and is a really neat car. Really bad photo here:
