Checked the tour dates for Flogging Molly (probably best live act I've ever seen), and they're going to be nearby (Oakland) in a month. Checked my NASA calendar and realized that's also a race weekend. Now, I'm torn on what to do.
Haven't raced since... early November. But it's been longer since seeing Flogging Molly, and there will be another race next month. Flogging Molly is definitely less expensive, too.
I suppose I could theoretically do both since Oakland isn't far from Infineon: Race Saturday day, mosh Saturday evening, crash for a few hours, and race again Sunday. That would be pretty painful though.
Leaning towards Flogging Molly. Aside from being a rarer treat, and less expensive, the girlfriend wants to go to that.
Plus, my racing budget is small enough, that skipping a race weekend won't really get me out to fewer races, just different ones.
First thing I think of? Does Molly agree to being flogged?
I'm tired, I know.
Flogging Molly. You can go racing next month.
Concert.
You never regret getting to see a good live act.

Give up a racing weekend for a concert??? Are you nuts? That's sheer heresy! It should be Flogging Salanis!

There is your answer.
<--- Moshed for the first time in 15 years a few months ago at the Social D show.
I'm envious. Raise what's left of the flag for me.

Forgive me for being old... I had to Google "Flogging Molly"...
Sounds like a fun band... I'll have to check them out when I'm at a computer that can get music.
My sister lives in Oakland and brother in Alameda. That does nothing to help you chose your priorities, I was just giving a local shout-out.
I will have to check out Flogging Molly since my iPod still has a few Gig to go!
race saturday.. see flogging molly.. sleep in sunday.. go home happy
Should not have mentioned Flogging Molly to your SO, now you're going to look like Richard if you choose racing.
Flip a coin I say, flip a credit card if you haven't a coin.
Loving racing and absolutely berkeleying hating that band, I'd say go racing, then go to a pub, get piss drunk, and start singing some real irish drinking songs and try to get everyone to sing along. It'll be a lot more fun than suffering through amplified nails-on-chalkboard fiddle parts while some gutter-punk spits on you and gives you hepatitis.
The Pogues and the Irish Rovers are the real thing. I'll withhold my opinion of Flogging Molly but I bought and couldn't stand their first album. If you want punk/irish/rock listen to the Dropkick Murphy's.
Where are they playing in Oakland? I still want to go to the Fox, never been there.

You can't have a plan that has steps after "get piss drunk". That's where plans end and awesome begins.
Both
i have tickets to see the Dropkick Murphys in a few weeks - it's been a few years since i've seen FM. definitely a good live show on both accounts. dave king has an incredible voice, but he is also an incredibly arrogant arse in person.

If poop didn't make plans after "get piss drunk" he'd never get up from the breakfast table.

I put the "fun" in "functioning alcoholic."

Okay, key point: with NASA it is a race weekend. If I intend to actually race, I can't pay for just Saturday, I have to pay for both days.
In Repy to BenzBaron:
Pogues - Yes. Dropkick Murphy's - not so much. And, yes, they will be playing at the Fox Theater.
Edit: Maybe I'll just wear my racing suit and pretend that I'm racing Spec Miata.

Social D is coming to my town in a few months with Chuck Ragan. I am excited to say the least.

Man the berkeley up, race Saturday, party Saturday night, and race Sunday. Sounds like a weekend that would make for some good stories. Embrace the insanity.

Maybe if I were at Thunderhill. I don't think I want to be exhausted and hung-over at Infineon. That's a scary track.

I feel like this poster needs to watch that commercial where the staff sergeant from Full Metal Jacket is the psychiatrist and throws the box of tissue at the crying sissy boy he's "helping".
Don't be a pussbag, PUSSBAG!
You want to pass on a race weekend to go see a irish drinking-song band? Take your berkeleying ipod to the track. What the hell is wrong you people.
