Thanks for the great comments and ideas. If I replace the decking this year I have another option to consider. The experience part of this thread is why I asked here and didn't just do a generic web-search.

in ohio, Trex brand fades and gets moldy after one year. lots of very unsatisfied people with it up here. plus it does not taste good.
