As a people, we have the government we deserve. There is too much apathy and ignorance to really change things. A uninformed and uninterested electorate results in an overbearing and self-serving government.

I was going to say something like this......
but I decided to check Facebook instead.
OK, this is as nice as I can be about his passing:
RIP, Sheets...

It would be funny if they dressed him up in his "Grand Exalted Knight of the Klanny Puba" outfit or whatever...then hung him from strings and made him dance.

Can we see this on youtube?
Wow. Senator Byrd was a living contradiction. So much pork came to WV and yet a lot of good too.
I can echo those have said "It was about time...he's been looking dreadful for ages." What do we do now for fun to point out 'pork in government' ? I can't think of much, frankly. Maybe his best example will be the last.
He DID change his mind on many points, and he DID try his best for his constituency. And his best was pretty good for a long time.
Well, at least you'll have the
Robert C. Byrd Drive, from Beckley to Sophia (Byrd's hometown)
Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center at Wheeling Jesuit University
Robert C. Byrd Highway
Robert C. Byrd Federal Correctional Institution
Robert C. Byrd High School
Robert C. Byrd Freeway
Robert C. Byrd Center for Hospitality and Tourism
Robert C. Byrd Science Center
Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of West Virginia
Robert C. Byrd Cancer Research Center
Robert C. Byrd Technology Center at Alderson-Broaddus College
Robert C. Byrd Hardwood Technologies Center, near Princeton
Robert C. Byrd Bridge between Huntington and Chesapeake, Ohio
Robert C. Byrd addition to the lodge at Oglebay Park, Wheeling
Robert C. Byrd Community Center, Pine Grove
Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships
Robert C. Byrd Expressway, U.S. 52 near Weirton
Robert C. Byrd Institute in Charleston
Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing
Robert C. Byrd Visitor Center at Harpers Ferry National Historic Park
Robert C. Byrd Federal Courthouse
Robert C. Byrd Academic and Technology Center
Robert C. Byrd United Technical Center
Robert C. Byrd Federal Building (there are two)
Robert C. Byrd Hilltop Office Complex
Robert C. Byrd Library and Robert C. Byrd Learning Resource Center
Robert C. Byrd Rural Health Center

Robert C. Byrd Industrial Park, Hardy County
Robert C. Byrd Scholastic Recognition Award
Robert C. Byrd Community Center in the naval station, Sugar Grove
Robert C. Byrd Clinic at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
Robert C. Byrd Biotechnology Science Center at Marshall University
to remember him by.
Oh shnaps, I almost forgot the statue of himself he had commissioned for the capitol...and by commissioned, I mean stole money from the tax payers to pay for.
And I can't think of a better reminder than the not-so-subtle ass-pounding one receives while driving on the WV turnpike...you know, the one you have to PAY to drive on.
I would have just been happy with a 40' statue of myself for my peasants to gaze lovingly at. That dude was a megalomaniac with the pork.

I need to know what the pose would look like. Any props? "Artistic interpretation" of the sock-drawer region? Raptor head maybe?
wow. the fact that he had a statue of him made while alive and still 'serving' just amazes me. he's even pointing down at the peons!
Something like this. Maybe with a baby speared on a Trident though so I didn't look like I was a copycat.
Glad somebody brought up the turnpike. If he was so good at getting pork, why couldn't they build an interstate over that stretch. I just went up that road two weeks ago. What A POS. The tolls have gone up. It better that a back road though.
I've done several Walmart projects in WV over the years. I always like going, but I'm always glad when I start for home. I cannot believe how some of the folks there live. I even did the Walmart in Beckley on hizzonors highway to Sophia. It even had an old coal mine under it.
In response to the intelligence of voters, just check out the democratic race in SC.

Hilarious, so all you need to do is get top billing on the ballot to win a race in SC.

I've seriously considered legally changing my name to Barrack Hussein Obama and running for Mayor of Atlanta.
Yeah, that guy Greene is getting a lot of press around here. He was interviewed a couple of times and a local columnist pointed out that with his weaving and bobbing around questions he will make a perfect politician.
Yet another argument for term limits.
