My dad had an Allis-Chalmers garden tractor very similar to the one in that ad, and the front end was relatively light. It wasn't that hard to do wheelies with it. I even flipped it over backwards once, going up a hill (I landed on the ground on my back, with the tractor on top of me...I pushed it off to the side, it righted itself and kept on running. 
) On the other hand, there actually was a forklift attachment available from the factory as an accessory but it came with some big weights that bolted on the front end.
Maybe he's a really fat guy.
