So if gunbroker.com is the eBay of the gun world, what is the Craigslist equivalent?
Been doing some reading over at rimfirecentral.com on 22lr plinkers. I like the idea of the 10/22 as you can pretty much build one from scratch with aftermarket parts if you wanted to but I'm also looking at other options like the Marlin 60 (less aftermarket support) and extremes like S&W's AR-15/22!
But I don't want to rule out second-hand purchases either so what are the good resources out there?
My business partner just bought a Winchester 1892 off craigslist. I would start there. I don't know of any specific sights for them.
Thanks for the rimfirecentral site. I've got an old Savage Model 6A 22 that used to belong to my father. It has started trying to fire the entire magazine at once. I would love to fix it, but didn't have a resource for information.

The classifieds at rfc are pretty good, and you could get a good start on a budget ultimate build there
Hmm, I didn't check CL very closely because I was under the impression, for some reason, that they didn't allow firearms. Are they usually under Sporting?

heres a pic of my 10/22, with ATI fiberforce stock, bipod and sling as of today. only other thing i've done is add the auto bolt release which makes working things much easier.
not sure about CL and firearms, i think technically they don't like it, but theres nothing illegal about it afaik..

You bought gun parts from this guy?

auto bolt release.
This is about 15 minutes worth of work with a small file.

Nylon bolt from Lowes FTW.

even fits better than the stock steel pin, which would just fall out.

I pretty sure CL states no fire arm ads.
Strizzo:
I got a RRA LAR-8 and I love it. Its a real tack driver. What caliber did you get?

The lower is a rra complete with 2 stage trigger and collapseable stock, upper is a 5.56 dpms 16" barrel flat top. On sale at midway atm.
Went with the 556 because it's already going to be way more expensive than my 10/22 and 9mm to shoot.

I didnt think a DPMS upper would work with a RRA lower? Maybe I'm just thinking of the LAR-8 stuff...

yeah, on the .308/30-06/7.62 stuff, the lowers and uppers are manuf. specific, ar15 parts are interchangeable.
i read somewhere that there is no set spec because the ar magwell isn't big enough for the .308 rounds, so each company builds to their own liking.
Edit: here is RRAs statement on compatibility on the 308 rifles compared to the ar-15 based rifles: http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=451

Armslist is the best site i have found however it is nowhere near as good as Craigslist as it is not near as well known but it is free.

Yeah, if you bothered to hold the a round of .308 upto the magwell of a ar-15 you'd see clearly that it isn't compatible. Though there are lots of other rounds that can fit in there and have an awesome target shooter, not as much stopping power as the .308 or 30-06 though.
I've bought firearms off craigslist before, always seemed rather shady to me though. Meet in a parking lot, and buy a gun. little weird. I've been buying off of auctions at houses lately, some good deals to be found if you don't mind doing some smithing on your own.

In reply to digdug18:
yeah, i had heard that, but don't own a .308, so don't have a .308 round to compare to my AR magwell. figures on craigslist as well, since nobody seems to come out and say that they're selling a gun in the ad title, its usually something like "night stand tool"

The 'no guns on CL' must be because of the hippie mentality: 'peace, not war, man.' (Since they have a peace sign in the address bar and it started in San Fran)

upper, rear sight, scope riser(for when the time comes) and magazines should be here tomorrow, so exciting
I hear a build your own AR-15 thread showing a basic how-to coming....

Definitely pics tomorrow though

If you're looking for a forum, www.ar15.com has some good threads. Heavily right-wing avatar pictures but their banter is normally pretty light hearted. I like looking at the 'Industry' area of the forum to be able to converse with manufacturers or discussing their products. (The RRA Moderator offers lots of help to people and seems generally interested in making customers happy.)

yeah, i've been looking through ar15.com a bit, lots of good information there, and they seem happy to help out with newbie questions.
the RRA lower i bought has their 2-stage trigger in it, very nice feel and i can't wait to get out to the range.

Strizzo, remember to post some pics, and I'll try to get a picture of myself in orange and my new rifle next week during Wisconsin's gun deer hunting season.
