i keep saying - self, stop buying cars. you don't need anything else. look for a bike, they take up less space.
so i cruise CL, and like a moron, i search in the car section from $123-750 which is how i find most of the junk i drag home. and there sits a 1966 datsun 1600 in what looks like and is claimed to be solid shape, with a hardtop too, for $500.
craigslist is mocking me. i know i shouldn't go look, but part of me wants to call the guy right now because i know it's a can't lose. if my garage was cleaner i would probably grab it before my wife gets home from work and just toss it in the corner and cover it up, but if i go buy it and she finds out, she may be a little put off because i have bought 4 vehicles since november. in all fairness i did get rid of 3.
right now i'm not sure if i am trying to talk myself out of it, or trying to talk myself into going to look at it, giving some $ for him to hold it till friday, and coming home and cleaning my garage.
it's all my buddy's fault for asking me to be his best man then scheduling his wedding for the weekend of $2012, and thus giving me an extra year to build something. my mind wanders when i have too much time to think.
Why haven't you picked it up yet?
This should be a thread about the Datsun you just bought.
You can't not make money somehow on a $500 Fairlady.

post some pics here when you get it home
Do you know how many times I've typed "Datsun 1600" into craigslist and got zero results?!?!?!?!

So wot is dis. Craigslist mocks you so you mock us? goldagnabbit. 500 buck with a hardtop...
If you are here to get your head examined.. it would be for not having dragged the datsun home already
We had a thread about this car a week or so ago. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
yeah, i'm going to inspect at 3 when the owner gets home from work. taking cash, not taking trailer because every time i take a trailer the vehicle is a POS, every time i have to go back to pick it up things work out OK. if i take some ramps it might roll right into the back of my suburban. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
i think it may fit on my 5x8 utility trailer. no joke, i looked up the specs. it's under 5' wide and the wheelbase is half a foot shy of 8'. it seems a waste to take an 18' tandem axle dovetail car hauler to pick up something so small. going to measure the car, i might be able to screw a couple 2x10's to the 5x8 deck, tilt it up(tilt bed trailer = winning), roll car on, strap down, cruise home like it's not even there. but alas, i am getting ahead of myself. will update after i get home. right now i am taking a short break from cleaning garage, and i actually let Carli know i am going to look at a car and she said go for it. maybe i have underestimated her, because i usually buy first then let her know what i did.
my 60 C20 is officially going to be for sale though if this thing comes home, but my dad has first dibs. then bravenrace does.
Since I'm assuming you're driving her home right now, I'll give you 500 for it when you're done playing.

Lol that car isn't driving anytime soon. Body looked somewhat solid, though with some pretty intense patina. It stopped there. Wasn't much else to the car.
there's a typo in the thread title. i'm sure you meant "new-to-me datsun 1600" instead of "craigslist mocks me".

Thats OK. I've got an RB sitting around.
Did not buy, pile of E36 M3.
The entire frame front to back has rot
I'm pretty sure that the size of the photos craigslist posts are perfect for hiding rust.
he said it was solid and the frame had "a little rust"
the front under the core support was gone. the entire bottom of the frame under the floorpan almost fell off when i touched it, and i could reach right up into the frame. the rockers are gone, trunk dropoffs are gone, bumpers not there and not included with the "there are 2 trim peices missing and no seats" from the ad.
we have two very different definitions of solid apparently. by solid i think no rot holes in the frame or body.
the top had a couple cracks, no seals, and no hardware, and the windshield was cracked.
neat little cars, but not this one. it's best suited for someone who needs a clear title and tag to "restore" their car.

lucky. all I've got is an l24=/
I guess craigslist really is mocking you then. Bummer. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)
yes, craigslist did indeed mock me.
i was all excited and was looking for any reason to buy the car, but no way.
