No, it's people analyzing and describing the places where their own tastes seem to differ inexplicably with the majority - in some cases, the vast majority - of others in the same general culture.
I find that interesting in an anthropological sense.
Man I love a lot of the movies mentioned in this thread esp Big Lebowski, Rocky Horror Picture Show, LOTR and Tarantino.
I really dislike most of Zack Synder's and Christopher Nolan's stuff. In a large part because a lot of their films feel so berkeleying underexposed. Hell I hate a lot of new movies because they feel like that. It is the second worst freaking trend in Hollywood behind constant remakes and sequels of everything even if the original wasn't good. Have an original idea for berkeley sake.
Also Avatar, Napoleon Dynamite, McGruber, almost everything Adam Sandler has done (even Adam Sandler's best movies are medicore) sucks donkey balls.

Edit: Seriously - The fact that you didn't care for the movie (which is fine) but can remember how Winston Wolf takes his coffee speaks volumes to what a great storyteller and scriptwriter Tarantino is. Four offhand words that could be a throwaway line jump out unexpectedly and make you question your understanding of a character. That little detail is provoking more actual thought and non-BS analysis than the whole of 'Avatar'. Doesn't mean you have to like the movie, but is why people enjoy Tarantino.

To add another old movie to the list: The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) I remember going there with a girlfriend hoping for non-stop softcore porno. What I got was a somewhat less satisfying story that has a bummer ending and runs for darn near three hours.
To be fair, I may have been too drunk at the time to fully comprehend the story, but it stands out as an overlong stinker of a movie.

The sequel, Shock Treatment was actually much worse. It only lasted one week in the theater and when I saw it most of the people walked out before the movie was even half over. Imagine the Rocky Horror Picture Show with all of the original cast except Rocky, Tim Curry and Meat Loaf. I can't believe that Amazon gets more than $10 for the 25th Anniversary DVD of this pig. In fact, I can't beleive they made any kind of DVD of it, much less a 25th Anniversary Edition.

I didn't really think it was that difficult. No one is saying anyone in here shouldn't express their opinions on what they do and don't like.

Whoa, I didn't realize they even made a sequel. RHPS is definitely not high art or anything, but not everything needs/has to be.
I find this thread really interesting to see that you may like a lot of the same stuff as someone else, then not like a lot of stuff as well.

Rocky Horror was kind of a big deal back when I was in high school. The local theater would run it as a midnight movie every Saturday night. People would show up dressed as their favorite characters and sing along with the movie. You could smell the cannabis in the audience. The theater even hired a guy to ride his Harley up and down the aisles during the Meat Loaf scene. No corporate movie chain would allow something like that today.
The sequel was heavily advertised, then after it tanked badly the studio took it out of the theaters after the first week and tried to pretend it never happened. I can't believe they are selling it as a DVD now.
While not exactly critically acclaimed, almost all of the late 90's early 00's comedies relied pretty heavily on homophobic slurs and mental-disability insults, most of these haven't aged very well for me.
Waiting and Waterboy come to mind specifically - some chuckles to be had, but there's a definite discomfort for me now.
