I don't get it. It's got so little bed that it's not useful as a pickup. So, you want/need an SUV, but you want to make sure you can't lock up/protect from weather whatever it is you're "hauling"?
If you move nothing but engines, great. I bet you can fit two in there and get no grease on your carpeted interior. Beyond that, it just looks like the worst possible aspects of an SUV and a pickup combined in one vehicle.
I think the previous associations made in this thread are remarkably apt.
it's a little more usable than it looks.. when you flip down the tailgate there is an extension that makes the bed a little longer.
Considering how many people have never thrown anything dirtier than their groceries into the back of a p/u.. it's a decent deal
I looked at them since I miss my pickup. Sure I can't tote a sheet of plywood in it, but I mostly move smaller items anyway. I just miss having a parts hauler. Toss a transmission in the back or an engine block and go. Maybe a set of tires and wheels. The mpg are lousy though so I canned the idea.
My brother in law has had two of them and he always asks to borrow my pickup for normal sized stuff.
I had a friend with one who placed the cap on it. What she really wanted was an SUV that fit the family but did a good job of hauling dirty stuff like hay and feed as well as towed a single horse trailer.
Her husband is a ford worker so a Dakota Crew Cab was not an option and a F150 Crew Cab was a ton of money.
My boss has one. He isn't a heavy duty hauler, so he likes it. Has a toneau cover for the bed, so he can haul groceries and a bunch of small stuff. To me, it's nothing more than a tall wagon with an open hatch. Not too useful. Kinda like the Subie Baja.

In the middle of Missouri. I didn't get a long look at the thing, but it didn't look like a Ranger-sized truck to me. Seriously, I'd never seen or heard of one before. If you could put a motorcycle in the bed with the tailgate down it looked like a handy thing.
They've been driving around for almost 12 years now. Must not be too popular in your neck of the woods. I always figured they were a strange compromise.
I think it's funny that people think that just because you can't haul a 4'x8' sheet of whatever or a Ford 8n in the bed of a 'truck', the bed in no way can be useful. Dirty is dirty, regardless of the size of the item.
^Precisely. I can fit an engine/trans, lift, etc in the back of my Frontier, tow 6500lbs with it.
Why do I need a vehicle that's significantly larger, that gives me extra capacity I'll never use? Granted the V6s don't get any better mileage, but full-size trucks nowadays are so big, they are unreasonable.
The main issue for me is size, a crew cab full-size pickup these days are just monsterous.
And expensive if you want one with any kind of options.
It has been my experience that a new full size pickup is more of a fashion statement then anything else 90% of the time and also something like a Ranger is used as a truck more often then most F150s.
Interesting. There are probably 50% as many of these on the road in central GA as there are same year Exploders. I'm slightly stunned that they aren't common in Missouri.
I've always thought they were a pretty useful idea if you're honest about what you actually use a vehicle for.
But I don't think you could get them with the V8, so I would have to opt for the Exploder version as towing is a requirement for me. That's if I ever replace the '97 V8 'Sploder I already have...

I think a class III hitch is standard equipment on any dually.

Thats because the tonneau cover is taken off when they hook up the 5th wheel trailer.
No external hitch, could be a fifth wheel hitch Every thing just looked too clean. Yeah, I know, truck doesn't have to get dirty towing a trailer.
