In one of the motorcycle mags, a guy wrote a story about going from Florida to the Pacific Northwest. Sorta like the Three Flags run, but not as fast. Anyway, somewhere in the Midwest he was following a semi in the middle of the night riding a big ol' full dress Harley, going about 80. He said the semi 'jumped' and he wondered 'Whaa???' and about that time a CAR HOOD came out from under the trailer. He said he was too close to stop, the hood kinda floated up, then floated down, he stood on the pegs leaned back and hit it dead square. He said the bike bounced a bit but that was all. Of course he had to stop and change his undies.

When I lived in Prairie City they use to run motorcycle runs through that area all the time. There was a guy ridding through the area on like a Goldwing or some other big touring bike and hit a cow .

Neither the cow or the rider made it.

if you are caught doing over 10 over on a 2 lane, or 20 over on the highway, you get slapped with the "Super Speeder" fine, which is seperate from the fine of speeding. They send you a bill in the mail for the extra $200....

and I guess they have reciprocity with NC...

I usually run ~ 90 from I26 / I95 'til I get somewhere near Savanna ...

I know someone with a black mk2 that has an extra bumper, its not great (the clips are broken and it has a crack in it) but its better than nothing. Hopefully it didnt break the clips that hold the under door trim on, I think they are about $300 a set.

And it's obviously a money grab...the way I understand it, there aren't any extra points on your licence (even though they've been barking "SAFETY" and "CHILDREN" all the way through the state legislature).

I'm gonna go through my local shop first, we used to race together and we're pretty good buddies.

I'll keep you in mind, though. Any idea what your bud wants for it?

The thing that burns me up is that I just did this about two years ago when I put the thing back on the road. Sometimes I wonder if this one should become a "hobby" car as well (due to its age), but I really can't think of anything newer I'd like to use as a commuter. Cars have gotten too fat, too ugly, too "luxurious", etc. The dang thing runs like a top (even with almost 240K), gets almost 30mpg on the stupid mandatory E10 here, and is an absolute joy to drive every single time I get in it. I guess I'll just keep slapping it back together until parts dry up completely...

Its not just the big road debris that you have to worry about either, a few years ago while driving my work truck on 95 near Philly, a small chunk of cement was kicked up by the rear tires of a cement mixer (probably fell of the chassis of the truck first) and was shot directly at my windshield at head level on the drivers side, and nearly came through the glass! The piece was a little bigger than a golf ball, just the right size to fit between the dual rear tires and get shot out like a ball from a pitching machine.

That's scary. I still remember that part in the "Speed Merchants" movie where they talk about the rock taking out Helmut Marko's eye. The hole in his helmet's visor was almost perfectly round.
