I had to get ducks in a row at work so I could come to the challenge. I cut it too close and don't have the time to drive, and now flights are too much.
So since I have a little time to play with, I'm going to get away for a couple days.
Looking for suggestions of places to go that are within a half-day's drive from Harrisburg, PA. I'll just be camping in the van. Could be a flight if its cheap.
Ideas to get you started:
- I thought about flying to Vegas because there is a new restaurant there I want to try
- Gave consideration to Tallmadge, OH, because Summit Racing
Tallmadge would get you into the path of totality for Monday's eclipse, if you're into that sort of thing.
Similar event at Summit Point this weekend. A $2004 class as well as open "run what ya brung" class. Need a helmet to take out your own Lincoln Mark8.

I'd second the eclipse. Don't know the geography, but you might be able to make a decision early Monday morning depending on cloud cover?
Harley factory is a great idea, but I have a buddy who works there so I've had the real grand tour there before. I got to install a tank and a front fork.
I will likely see the eclipse, but I'm kinda unimpressed by it. I don't mind stepping outside the shop with my welding helmet and looking at it for a few seconds, but I don't feel the need to drive 6 hours to the path of totality.
Summit Point sounds like fun. I would probably spectate since the Lincoln needs brakes and the pads and rotors are coming Monday. I could steal CaptDownshift's Ford Econobox on the way.
Wait... I can't use the word e s c o r t?

They added it to the list because a spammer kept posting links to help us find dates :)
I could use a date right now. Way better than an eclipse.
To find that Summit Point event, all I did was go to https://www.motorsportreg.com/
Click on find event and I searched any events within 300 miles of you for this weekend. viola.

Be careful what you wish for. Eclipse could be less trouble in the long run.

If you're heading to Ne Ohio, can go south to Canton and pro football hall of fame, and/or head north to Cleveland for rock and roll hall of fame. Mather steamship (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_William_G._Mather_(1925) ) is cool - may not be open at this time of year.
Cleveland will be total eclipse and you'll be there anyway.
Cool lighthouses in Conneaut, Ashtabula, and Fairport Harbor - all between PA border and Cleveland.
Come down to York and hang at the shop if you want rescue Del Sol, beers, challenge live feed if there is one it's bound to be a good time.

Baltimore. I hear there is an interesting bridge project going on...
Just text me 717-968-6083 I know tomorrow AM we have to go rescue the car hauler and Del Sol from AWS1986 (think that's his screen name) place in Waynesboro but after that can be challenge party day. Anybody down there that can give us play by play?
