I love the GRM off-topic forums. From laboratory grade animal blood and math to home improvement and cooking. Makes this topic almost seem like a softball...
When we bought this house a few years back, there was a small room in the corner of the basement that I saw and said to myself, "I wonder if I could turn that into a darkroom?" It's a small room with plumbing and electricity already, completely sealed off from any light sources (save the ones in the room itself) so it seemed logical.
Then I saw in the circuit breaker box that the breaker for that room was labelled "Dark Room." Hmm. No wonder it seemed like a good idea. I've always wanted to learn how to do the dark room side of photography, at least in black and white. I shoot mainly digital, but a darkroom would be a great excuse to shoot more real film. But since it was a new house and such there were more pressing needs, so it got put on the back burner for a while. Instead it's been repurposed into a light-proof beer storage room that maintains a pretty consistent 50-55 degrees.
Now the burner has been turned up as I'm finding myself with a bit of spare cash to get it going, so I started looking back at the room to return it to what seems to have been its original purpose. Then something struck me. One of the reasons the temperature is so consistent is that it's not only sealed off from light, but there is essentially no ventilation. Fine for beer storage, but that seems... less than fine... for chemicals and such.
Easy question: I'm assuming that fixing (adding) the ventilation would be a good idea. Correct?
Less easy question: Any resources that you guys would particularly recommend for figuring out how to set this thing up in the first place?
