Not that long since they lost Chris Smoot and now this. Kinda sad.

This sucks. I know there are a few GWAR fans on here. I've been to a few of their shows and it was always absurdly awesome. I don't see how they'll continue after this as well.
Was never really a GWAR fan, but they were at two different concerts I went to (for another band) and they put on a hell of a show each time.
I met him years ago. Awesome guy. Just nice and goofy. The world is just a little less fun now.
Oderus Urungus isn't dead, he just went back to his own planet.
I read the article under the link and found this nugget "His penchant for scatological humors belied a lucid wit."
I hope they say they about me when I'm gone.
When you get a chance, listen to the podcast that JG did with Brockie. Then listen to the one with Margie. Similar stories, similar work ethic.
This is from back in the day, but it still perfectly captures the GWAR experience:

For sure. He was one of the smartest dudes I've had the pleasure of talking to. Anyone who can turn the bastard love child of Monty Python and HP Lovecraft into a full-time job—and has their own line of BBQ sauce—has earned my respect.
A little while back, my pal Karina jammed with Oderus--and Skolnick:

SWMBO knows them all on some level. She's been to concerts, met them, etc. Even had her leg splint/cast-things autographed by them at a show once. She was kinda bummed this morning when I shared the news.

i saw an interview with him not too long ago where he said that the band is designed to last 1000 years, with every member being replaceable. he said GWAR has gained enough momentum in recent years to survive losing anyone- even himself.

So appropriate (and such an EPIC cover)
A real bummer. His appearance on the GRM podcast was really insightful. I have such massive respect for musicians who can carve out a successful niche like he/GWAR did.
I'm not a fan, but I've always known about them. It's terrible news.

I was talking to him 15-20 years ago after a show, and he was saying that since they were getting older and quite a few of them had kids, his dream was to have the next generation take over when necessary, and GWAR would go on forever. We'll see what happens.
Wow! Look at all the news outlets that picked this up!
