http://appleton.craigslist.org/tls/3347784258.html Is this a good deal? Is it a good air compressor? Also is it 120 volt? The guy's asking $200.
What does GRM say?

I think that compressor is used for pneumatic control in HVAC systems. Speedaires are considered good compressors. I dont know what the CFMs would be.
I'd give $200 if it ran good.
It's old as dirt. Make sure the tank isn't all rusty.
What is that, a big double-shafted capacitor start motor in the middle? How many cylinders is that thing?
Can't be sure of the voltage until you look at the motor plate.
Excellent compressors made for Grainger Corp. by a number of US suppliers like DeVilbiss and Quincy. Top quality industrial units made for years and years of 24-7 service.
Parts are still available, generally.
For $200 I'd have run red lights all the way there.
I've had a 220V single phase, 5hp, 60 gallon, 2-stage 4 cylinder Speedaire for about 5-6 years and it's wonderful. I had the 80 gallon 3 phase one at my old shop.
Run, don't walk and buy this. Be advised it's almost certainly 220V - if it's 3 phase you're screwed unless you have other 3 phase machinery or are in a commercial bldg w/ 3 phase service.
That 3Z number is the grainger number - Looks like they still make them, get a load of the price(!)

Great Googily-Moogily! Buy it!
Don't buy it.
I used to service Dayton/speedaire machines under warranty, they're great compressors.
THAT unit is not made for shop air, it's built for medical/dental use. It's a diaphragm type compressor so it's very quiet but it's also very low volume.
You'll have a unit that takes up quite a bit of space and takes a very long time to fill the tank and a very long time to recover once you've pulled two or three tires off with your impact gun.
Here is what you would use in the same physical space and nearly the same power requirements: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/SPEEDAIRE-High-Performance-Cast-Iron-Air-4B228?Pid=search
Almost twice the CFM of the unit you posted.
It's a very good unit but not well suited to your needs. It's not even close to the unit that motormoron posted about.
It's not three phase, the motor has start capacitors on it.
Hope this helps.

They're great and they're quiet but they don't put out a lot of air.
You could run an impact for short periods, air up tires or run air nailers but anything that is constant draw will work it HARD.
No die grinders, spray guns or air chisels.
I can't find a duty cycle rating either but the old 4B228 I linked to was 100% Dental compressors usually aren't 100%
