How did I not hear about the RoboCop doc when it came out last year?

I remember seeing RoboCop in the theater when released, and we showed in in school, too.

We’re through two of the four installments, and they got like everyone involved back in front of the camera. We’re watching it on Prime.

First film analysis class I ever took we watched Robocop as one of our selections. Verhoeven is nuts but the guy pours his guts into every one of his movies.

Hey, we also covered his movies in flim class. (Were you there, too?)

Which is the one with the rebar scene?

I don’t want to give away the whole “making of,” but the doc reminds you how this was an all-analog movie–the sounds, the stop motion, the puppeteering. Even RoboCop’s vision was made using film and traditional, old-school FX. (And, yes, it talks about the Tauruses.)

I did not hear about this but will definitely be watching it soon!

mainly because CGI was at this level in the late 80s:

The climactic death scene of Dick Jones in "Robocop" (1987) looks really E36 M3ty : r/E36 M3tymoviedetails

In reply to j_tso :

Yeah, just for how complex it was, you forget that it was basically made like Jedi. Or at least I did.

SF Debris did a really good review and backstory a while back. You can find it on YouTubes.

I re-watched the whole trilogy in a TV marathon late last year, it was at least as good as I remembered.

I was gutted when I heard that the RoboCop sequel Neill Blomkamp was working on got canceled, he has a very similar style of filmmaking and I'm sure it would've been worthy of the originals...

I thought everyone hates part 2 and 3. The first was dystopian, satirical sci-fi. The second tried to continue that but just wasn't good. Then for part 3 they gave in to all the merchandising and made it a superhero movie.

Remember when every rated-R movie with even a hint of potential, was turned into a kids toy/cartoon?

You guys remember when Robocop and The Man Called Sting got together to fight wrestling crimes?

Every time I think I'mdone with Prime's shenanigans, they pull me back in.  First Fallout, now this.

Heck, Disney made Stormtroopers cuddly. It happens.

Robocop cameos were some of the unhinged things to come out of the 80s.

Also- remember when Robocop also had a VIDEOGAME come out last year? and remember when it was pretty good? I sure do. Feels like you're playing the movie. It's clunky, it's slow, and there's an achievement for shooting a guy in the dick (seriously).

That game was awesome. I mean, it was ridiculously linear and it required no real thought or skill but it was definitely cool.

Real short though.
