Well that was amusing. Trying to get registered at an event, with a lot of background noise. That totally defeats my ability to understand what I'm hearing.
The nice lady doing the registration noticed my wife and I were signing, and she happened to know ASL as well, so we had a nice little conversation.
Then she crossed out my phone number, circled the email address and wrote "deaf" across the form. Sigh, I tried to insist I'm just a bit hard of hearing and can actually use a phone just fine. I lost. Ah well. Probably didn't help that I thought my voice sounded kinda funny when I spoke.
I think she was just trying to provide some good customer service. I wouldn't worry about it.

sweetest thing I've seen one grm'er say to another in at least a month
I took sign as my language in HS... the women who is now my wife did also... we used it frequently in "no talking" times (talking across class and such)... good memories...
wish I knew/could recall more of it :(... on the other hand... I think spanish would have been more useful....
I had a nurse friend teach me all the dirty (single-gesture) words once, but that's not ASL is it?
With all three of our children my wife and I have taught them some signs when they were young, like before they could talk, so they could communicate with us. We did simple things like more, done, cookie stuff like that.

You sure?
From the comments section on that video:
He Signed, "You make me feel big". (BIG can also mean A LOT.)
I am Deaf and an ASL teacher.

Yeah I guess you're right!
I was just pointing out somebody else "listening" in on a signing conversation. I was under the impression they were saying "you complete me".
Watch this one instead. Classic.

What? Whuh?
(It's OK. I'm heard of hearing, too.)
Finally got a chance to look at the Youtube video. Granted, it's only a movie, and you're only seeing a few signs. I see "you-make-me-feel" clearly. The last one, to me, could be "ball" or a maybe a whispered "compare".
Looks like pidgin sign, not asl, but it's only a few words.
Which makes me think it might be a deliberate spoof or play on words (you make me feel like balling). Sorta like what the indians would do when they spoke on old western movies, or what Sacha Baron Cohen was doing in Borat.

THERE'S SOMETHING ON MY BUTT?
I worked with a girl that was hard of hearing, headed toward deaf. She spoke as if she were deaf, signed almost every conversation but did occasionally use a telephone, hated it.
I walked up stairs one day and she was in a phone booth plopping coins in; my buddy looks at me and says "If she starts signing into that thing I'm done"
Meh, maybe you had to be there ....
